Split stays - any limitations?

We've never done a split stay, but the idea really appeals to me. Are there any limitations of which we should be aware? For example, are there restrictions regarding which hotels they'll move your luggage from and to, etc.? Thank You!

They won't move your luggage off Disney property but they will move it if you stay on property. You can even get luggage moved to or from the Swan and Dolphin.

You should be able to get your luggage moved to any of the Disney owned resorts. However, there are no guarantees that your new room will be ready before normal check-in time, although I was able to check in around noon once. If there is anything (like bathing suits) you may want before this time, keep them with you. Also, your luggage will not be delivered until the afternoon.

If you are on a meal plan you will not be able to continue it. The new reservation is a totally new reservation and you would have to buy another park ticket if you were signing up for another meal plan.

I have done split stays and loved them. I send my luggage on ahead and then go to a park. In the late afternoon I head over to the new resort and I can get the room and have my luggage delivered (it does not get automatically delivered to your room).

Also if you have anything valuable in your luggage, it is the best idea to carry it with you. You can lock a suitcase if you wish.

The OP brings up the problem with continuing a meal plan to a new resort - as they are separate reservations, they have to be separate packages, and you would likely need to buy new tickets to have a DDP package on the second stay - unless you are an annual passholder, a DVC member, or are eligible for the military room discount.

Thank you. Unrelated, follow-up question: How do I insert our trip history at the bottom of each of my posts, as so many people do? Sorry to be a bother...

Our family has swithed resorts a few times during visits and will be doing it again this September. We are staying at POP for 5 nights with the upgraded free dining and then switch to AK for 5 nights with our AP discount. We did have to buy 2 day park hoppers even though we have AP's. We will save the park passes for another trip. One thing that might be difficult for some is having to pack up to move once settled into a room/resort. We pack light and are all adults so can be packed up quickly. We also rent a car so we sometimes take luggage with us but have had it moved with no problems. We really enjoy getting to stay at differnt resorts but like the above poster stated you have to rebook with each resort so dining won't move with you.
