Started doing some preliminary planning for a big family Universal trip sometime next year. In pricing, it seems clear that the longer you stay, the bigger the discount you receive on nightly rates. We’ve discussed possibly doing a split stay, doing a night or two in a premier resort for the express pass and then moving to a value resort for the rest of the time.

My question is can you still get the discount if you, for instance, stay 4 nights in a value and 2 nights in a premier resort? The two nights aren’t enough on their own, but combined with the 4 nights, seems reasonable. Anyone have experience with this?

No, it won't apply the discount that way. It has to be a single reservation of the same room type for the given number of days to get the discounted rate. You can play around with it and see what ends up working best for the dates.

That's a major benefit of the AP rates - they are the same lovely low rate regardless of booking 1 night or 8 nights, so it's nice and easy to do split stays without losing the good pricing. We're 2 adults, so it's not too big of a hassle to move when it means saving a few hundred dollars on the hotel. You might look at the AP rates and see if they're worth upgrading one person to an AP for the trip.
