How many have done a split stay at the resorts? Is it a hassle packing and unpacking mid-vacation? We were thinking of a split stay at the YC and WL or a mod resort next summer. It would be 2 adults and ds-8 and dd-2.
What are your thoughts on this? Thanks!

We enjoy doing split stays if we are staying awhile - it's not worth it to pack up everything after just 2 nights IMO but if you're staying longer than that, it's fun to have a change of scenery and location.

It has not been a pain for us, really, but we are all adults. We did one trip (last year) were we stayed no more than 2 nights anyplace, and that WAS a pain. But our last trip, we stayed a few nights with my mom and then moved to WL.

Great thing about Disney resorts is that they will move your luggage for you, so you just hop to the other resort to check in and go on your merry way. I think splitting is a great thing to do if you want to be close to the parks you are spending time at - stay at an Epcot/MGM resort for half, then a MK resort hte other half. YC and WL would do that for you =)

We adored WL, and i think YC is just gorgeous with an incredible pool. Good luck deciding!

We have done split stays several times and are planning to do another split stay next month. It's really not a big deal to move to us.

I've done it twice so far, but won't do it again. Yes, to me it was a big hassle trying to gather up all my stuff & move to the next resort.

To me, it was time that would have been better spent in one of the parks, at a pool, having a relaxing breakfast, etc.

I'm curious about this, too. It never really occurred to me to try split stays until I joined the DIS and read about posters doing it quite often. I have two VERY young DDs (2yr and 6 mos) so I'm not sure it will work for us right now, but I plan on giving it a try in the future. Trying it is the only way I can be sure if it will work for us or not and if we feel that it's worth it to us.

I'm joining this thread, though, because I'd like to hear other's feedback and opinions on the topic and the experiences that they've had doing it.

I just did it last month with a DH, 4yo and turning-2yo. Yes, it was a bit of a pain to pack up after 2 nights, but it went very smoothly. Everything was transported when they said it was and checkin was a breeze. PM/email me if you have specific questions.

We did it for the first time on our trip last summer. My DW was not thrilled at us packing everything up, to go to another hotel for just three nights, but we enjoyed being at a resort we had never stayed at. We are going to do it again this summer, with 5 nights at Poly and then 8 nights at AKL. For us it gives us a chance to try other hotels while still spending most of our vacation at our favorite the AKL. We had a car so we just moved our own luggage, but they will do it for you.

We split a 15 nights stay between 3 resorts. I did it because my mom wanted to stay at the wl & I at the akl. We did 3 because I didn't want to pay for all nights at the delux resorts so we started at POR and moved to akl for 2 nights then on to wl. It was not a big deal to move as they move your luggage for you. It was nice being at 3 different places. I don't think I would do it with real little ones though - alot more work! I just packed our suitcase so everthing for our 2 night stay was on top.

This Aug DS13 & I are staying 8nights VWL and 6nights BCV

We will do our split stay in Sept. for the first time and I am looking forward to it. Last time when we went to WDW, I packed our kids clothes by outfits into a gallon size ziploc bags (socks, undies, shirt, shorts) and then put dirty clothes in separate bag. This system will help with a split stay also because you can just take out a bag each day instead of going through clothes and putting them in dressers and taking everything out again. I would think the key to avoid having to unpack and pack is to take out only what you need or have two suitcases, one for each hotel and then a bag or something for things you will need at both places.

We just did a split stay and it worked very well. We didn't have a car so Disney moved our bags for us. We checked out of the VWL and went to a late breakfast at the Magic Kingdom. A little later I went to AKL and checked in. It gives you a chance to try more than one resort on vacation. :umbrella:
