Split Stay--WDW Resort and then rented DVC points--DDE Question

OK, so hypothetically speaking, if we were to book a package for 6 nights in February, including the DDE, and then do 3 nights at a DVC property if we were to have any credits left over, would we be able to use them, or do they need to be used up by the end of the day we check out of our first resort?

I think I know the answer, and they do have to be used up, but I just though I would check with my fellow DISers who are in the know.

The scenario will be this probably:

Arrive WDW, stay at a Mod for 6 nights, on package.
Check out of Mod, check into DVC for 3 nights.
Leave DVC, and go home

I just got back from a split stay with the dining plan at two DVC resorts, and the credits from the first resort had to be used up by midnight on the night that I checked out of the first resort. It would have been easier to just have been able to combine all of the credits for the whole time, but with some planning, it all worked out ok. So yes, you're right.
