Split stay - transferring belongings?

I've done a split stay before but we always moved our stuff since we had a car rather than having Disney do it. What are the pros and cons of having Disney move your stuff? Will they move non-perishable groceries if they are in bags and will the move an ice chest? I'm still leaning towards moving myself mostly because I like to see where my room is going to be at check-in so I can make changes if I'm not happy with it. I assume if they move your stuff your sort of stuck with the room your assigned?

Finally, if we decide to have Disney move our stuff, what is the process for getting that set up?

Thanks!

I'm interested to see the responses to this as well. I've never done a split stay but we are considering it for next summer's 10 day trip (Poly/BC). From what I have been reading though the process goes somewhat like this: you pack and call bell services at resort #1, who will transfer your luggage to bell services at resort #2 (usually later in the day, possibly after check-in time), and then when you arrive and check in at resort #2, you notify bell services and they will bring your luggage to your new room.

Yup, that is the procedure. Be sure to keep with you anything you might need during the day (medications, etc.).

OK thanks that really helps. I can tell I'd prefer just moving it myself. I never know what I might want (dry clothes? dry shoes? etc). Rather have it in the car since I have that option.

I did a solo 3 split stay last year so had to transfer from bag three times. I was a little worried because I had my passport, cash iPad tec and I was torn whether or not to take this stuff with me through the parks which made me nervous too! What did I end up doing? Locked my suitcases with my passport, cash, iPad etc inside and made sure gave a bigger then usual tip to the porters (at least double) and everything went completely fine! I plan to do this again when I do another split stay this time 4 resorts in Jan 2016. Also, just thought I would mention that I walked past the bag lock up while staying at POR and had a glance inside and I felt better as they are all locked in there and you can't just walk in and take stuff. Hope this helps!

First, Disney moving your bags will have no impact at all on your room location and if you can move rooms or not. So don't let that even be a part of the decision.

Second, it's super easy to let Disney do it. You pack, you call Bell Services, they take the bags, give you a receipt type thing and then you go about your business.
Your bag(s) will show up at your next resort later in the day.
That last part is key, it may take 6 hours to get there. Or more.
But if you are leaving Resort A, heading to a park and then going to Resort B later on, that is typically not an issue.
And letting them do it if you are heading right to a park is also a huge advantage.
But, if you have a car, then it may be just as easy to move it yourself.
We fly so we always let Disney move our bags.

I know they will move groceries if you have them. I don't know about an ice chest but I suppose they may.
