Split Stay questions

Hi All,

Late November 2012 - thinking of trying our first split stay. A couple questions:

- when you book your trip, do I basically have to book two trips? One for the time in the first resort, and one for the time in the second?

- Do I have to change room keys, etc when we "move"?

- what about the park ticket feature and credit card feature on the room keys? Will I just get a whole new set of key cards at the new resort?

- what about luggage, etc? We will rent a car - do we just take it with us from resort a to resort b? Or can they somehow transfer it for us?

Also, we've been lucky enough to stay at 3 deluxe reorts and one timeshare property. This time, we were thinking of staying at a Mod for the first part, and then move to a Deluxe for the second part. However, I almost feel we've spoiled ourselves with our previous trips and I'm afraid we would constantly compare the Mod to the Deluxe.

Anyone want to share your experiences with starting off with a Mod when you had done Deluxe on your prior trips?

Thanks!

We have down split stays for the last 2 years - there are pros and cons for them I think. Disney makes it very easy to move from one resort to the other. We would pack up, call bell services, head to a park and return to the new resort at the end of the day to find our room ready and our luggage ready to be delivered.

What I didn't like about the split stays is the pressure mid-week to pack everything up. I tried to keep 2 suitcases for the first resort, and then the other 2 for the rest of the week, but it never seems to work out and then it makes packing at home more stressful.

You get a new room key at the 2nd resort, and if you're doing the meal plan, you actually need 2 meal plans since you're booking 2 different stays. That gets very confusing, and I've always run out of meals and snacks, etc.

It is a great way to experience more than one resort in a vacation, but this year we made a decision and went for one resort for a full week. I'll be happy to spread out my stuff and not stress over packing up mid-week :)

Hi All,

Yes

- what about the park ticket feature and credit card feature on the room keys? Will I just get a whole new set of key cards at the new resort? Yes

- what about luggage, etc? We will rent a car - do we just take it with us from resort a to resort b? Or can they somehow transfer it for us? Yes, you can do either ... just note ... bell services does it's transfers between 3pm and 4 pm

We like to start with the Mod and "upgrade" to the deluxes ...I find POR to be a wonderful resort and it's never been a disappointment

Anyone want to share your experiences with starting off with a Mod when you had done Deluxe on your prior trips?

For a split stay in two different resorts, you will be booking two entirely separate room reservations. So you will have to check out of your first resort, go to the second resort, check in, and get a new set of keys.

If you're driving, just bring your luggage to the new resort. If your room is not ready, you can leave the luggage in the car or bell services can hold it for you. Yes, you can have Bell Services at your first resort transfer it if you would rather do that.

I liked doing a split stay at Disney. It was like 2 different vacations. It was very easy to transfer from one hotel to the next.

One suggestion: Call housekeeping the day before you check out of hotel #1 and ask for a late checkout. If granted you can mosey on over to hotel #2 at your pleasure. I purposely scheduled a no park day for this.

Thanks for the replies and tips! Appreciate it. Will talk to my wife and start our planning - hope she likes the split stay idea.
