I've done this many times at WDW but not sure how it works at DL. We are booked at grand californian but unfortunately an unexpected house expense has threatened to cancel the trip. I don't want to disappoint family so want to still go but I have to cut back on expense. Sadly, there is no availability at paradise pier or disneyland hotel for 1 of my nights so I must do a split stay.

1. Does disney move your luggage for you? at WDW bell services will pick up from your room and move your luggage. how does it work at DL?

2. If I book first stay as package and get park ticket for full trip, is the tickets tied to first room key? Can I have this moved over to new room key when I check in to 2nd hotel? Again I do this all the time at WDW but not sure what to expect at DL.

Thanks.

I've not done this, but from what I've heard:

1. No, you'll have to move your luggage yourself.

2. Tickets are not tied to a park key at DLR, so you should be just fine.

At Disneyland you will call the bell desk and ask them to come get your bags. You need to wait for the bellman to come. I have been told you can ask them to transfer the bags to the other DIsneyland Resort hotel. Then when you get to the other hotel after check in, you call for your bags.

Room keys are not tied with the keys.

They will NOT transfer luggage to an off site hotel. You gotta schlep your luggage yourself. When you check out for the move day, almost all hotels including the resort hotels will hold your bags at the bell desk then you can go grab them and check into your new hotel at the ned of the day.

At DL you can use your room keys of the three resort hotels for room charge back in the parks but as Maclon10t mentioned, room keys and park tickets are separate at DL.

it wasn't clear if you were shuffling between the three Disney hotels or not. I recall they did move luggage for us once at the Disneyland Hotel when we had to change rooms within the hotel. never needed to try between hotels.

just a suggestion, lower the stress level and book an off site hotel for the entire stay. unless you are staying at a high end suite at the Disneyland Hotel or at the Grand Californian it's still just a hotel room.

We did a split stay in November between GCH & DLH. The morning we checked out of GCH, DH waited to have have our bags checked with the bell desk while I walked over to DLH through DTD with the kids to check in. During check in, I mentioned how we were coming from GCH and he said that we could arrange the bell desk to have our bags transfered. When speaking with the bellman, I was told they would be happy to have our bags transfered but they would not arrive before 3 pm. We have always gotten our room notification well before the 4pm check in time, so we decided to just do it ourselves since we had a car. We were hoping to get into the room early for an afternoon swim. I am happy with our choice because our room was ready by 11:30.

Like everyone else said, your room keys and tickets are two seperate items. You will need to show your room key for access to EMH, but other than that your room key has nothing to do with your tickets. Have a wonderdul trip!

I would just stay offsite for the whole trip. You will save both money and sanity.

I have to second this. Unless I'm traveling around to different cities, I don't want to switch hotels mid trip like that. I'm pretty sure that would be detrimental to my sanity.

I do think it really depends on the situation, though. I wouldn't have wanted to do this when my kids were little--it took forever to settle them into rooms, etc.--and I wouldn't want to do it on one of our 3-generation family trips (takes my in-laws forever to settle...). But, I'm doing this by choice this summer because doing DLH for our whole stay would be prohibitively expensive, and the kids are now old enough to enjoy change (they love the idea of different hotels and different hotel pools)...so we're doing some days at Hojo followed by DLH (all of which will be proceeded by a couple of nights at Knott's Hotel because we're going to Magic Mountain and Knott's before we go to DLR--yeah, it's a theme park blow-out for my 50th birthday)! Anyway, my point is that for some people in some situations, it's actually fun to experience different hotels in one trip, even though for other people in other situations, it would be stressful to pack up and move and unpack again.

It's different from WDW because at WDW the hotels are pretty much all WDW hotels. At DL, they're not.

We've done this twice -- once between DLR hotels and once between the Sheraton and the DLH. If you're transferring between DL resort hotels, (PPH, GCH, DLH), you take your bags to the bell desk and they will transfer them for you. You do not need to be there for the transfer and it's really easy to do.

However, it sounds like you'll be transferring to or from a non-Disney hotel, so that won't happen. In that case, you're on your own and will have to arrange your own transfer.

Your second question is trickier. Tickets are not connected to room keys, so your tickets will be good the whole time. However -- if you're at a Disney hotel first, you will only have EMH/MM the days you're staying at the Disney hotel. That's DL on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday, plus DCA on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. As long as you're at the hotel on the day you're in the park, you'll have EMH. So if you transfer the last day of your stay, say Saturday night, you would NOT have EMH on Sunday (but you would on Saturday).

You do get one MM just for buying a multi-day ticket, but they will count that the first day you do EMH (you can't "save" it for your last day). You could get around this by staying at the non-DLH hotel first (which I would do anyway). Use your one EMH/MM while at the non-Disney hotel, then when you get to your Disney hotel you will have all EMH/MMs.

We spent 1 night at DLH and then moved to GCH in December. They did transfer our luggage, but I cannot imagine that they would move luggage to or from an offsite hotel. I'm not 100% on what your plans are, though. If you're moving between onsite and a Good Neighbor, I suggest taking an Uber in between the two.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Sorry I wasn't more clear. Yes it would be from one DL resort to another. Specifically paradise pier to grand.

In that case, you're good! Just take your bags down before you leave for the park and they'll transfer for you. It will likely be later in the day when the transfer is complete. They will NOT take the bags from the room. You have to take them down yourself.
