Split stay or not?

Hi,
We have ressies for 2 rooms at POR for 10 days. The kids are really into The Lion King and African animals, so now DH and I think we should spend the first three nights (before grandparents arrive) at AKL. It's a splurge for us (especially since we want two rooms because we have three kids and it's just more enjoyable for us that way). Is it worth it? Is it hard to switch resorts?

We planned to get standard view rooms (and just keep our fingers crossed for a Savannah view upgrade miracle, lol). If we have standard view, will we be disappointed? I've heard people say it's fine...you can see the animals at the viewing stations. Thoughts?

Oh, and we decided we don't want the deluxe room that sleeps 6 because it's still just one bigger room, and we want the two seperate areas.

I'm sure I will be in the minority but I do not like splitting stays. After getting settled in, packing everything up and checking in to another resort is a hassle and I certainly would not spend extra $ to do it. Disney will send your luggage over to the other resort for you, though.

Hi,
We have split our stay twice now and we most likely will from
now on. We stayed at the Beach club villas (rented points Sun-Fri)
then stayed at AKL for only 1 night (had ressie for 2 but left a day
early). We enjoyed it alot, the kids really enjoyed seeing the
animals and talking to the cm's about the animals. We had just
a standard room ours was fine.
We had never split our stay before, or even thought about it, but
because of renting points we did it this time. We liked it so much
that we did it on our next trip also, stayed off site on points, then
stayed at the Poly for a couple of nights.
I say try it you might like it.
Good Luck

I'm in the minority as well.

For me its a real drag to upack and then repack.

That said it can be done. Many on this board are way more organized than I am. They organize their suitcases for the split stay. Unpack one for one resort, keep the other one packed for the next. Go to the neck resort and reverse the suitcases.

Until I organize my suitcase packing skills its just too much for us to do.

We just got back from POR/AKL. I was gung ho to do a split stay. It was great to try two different resorts but moving was kinda of pain. Not the actual moving part. It was very easy to pack up and move that is not a problem. The problem is that just as you start to get settled in, you pick up and move and you have to re acclimate yourself. That took away from the experience, I think. For example, little things like the bus stop number at the parks gets confusing.

BTW, we LOVED both resorts. POR was amazing and I can't say enough about AKL. Great resort.

I've split stays in the past and actually have one planned for next year and have only once had a problem (split a stay at CBR and hate this resort. Was ready to check out the day I checked in). I don't mind splitting stays and actually it's nice to experience 2 resorts. My upcoming trip will be 3 nights at Port Orleans French Quarter, then 6 nights at the Wilderness Lodge.

I am doing 2 split holiday - 5 days at AKL and 2 at GF at the end of the holiday. I cant afford to go to GF for longer but want to see what it is like!

I dont think it is too much hassle as already mentioned Disney will take your bags for you to the other hotel - I think it is fun!

we are planning on doing a split stay, not sure where yet, still toying with the idea of renting some points for a DVC resort, but where ever we dcide to stay we will be splitting it between tow resorts, only difference for us is we will be doing 21 nights, so we will have 10/11 nights in each resort, and i guess we'll be ready for a change.

I have no desire to split my stay. Once I unpack, I don't want to deal with luggage again until I leave.

I know many enjoy it but it's not for me. I'd rather settle in at POR and take the kids to visit AKL, especially if you're not going to reserve a Savannah room and be unhappy if you're not upgraded.

Just my opinion.

It would have to be a long, long vacation for me to split a stay. We generally have only 7 nights, sometimes less. I prefer to just do a different resort on each trip.

We're doing our first split stay in August. We stay 5 nights CSR and then 5 nights BC. Like another poster, I didn't want to spend the money for 10 nights at the BC rate but wanted to try out the resort. I'm afraid after a stay at an Epcot resort though, I may not want to stay any other place, so my theory about spending a lot of money for a resort my be out the window after this...
