Split stay - logistics?

Our upcoming vacation is a split stay between BLT and BWV. I'm aware that Disney transfers luggage. Do you have to check-out/check-in each time? Do you get one key to the world that 'knows' about the change? What if there's park tickets on the first card? Can I get park tickets separate?

Thanks for the help!

Last fall we split between OKW and SSR.

No check out was required, but they will put a statement on your door. A new check in was required at the second resort (SSR). I had done an on line check in for both resorts. We needed new room cards for our remaining park days and meal plans. I went first thing in the morning and received the package, and when we returned from the parks, our room was ready and bags were there. Because OKW and SSR are "sister resorts" that share staff and other resources, it was not difficult in arranging our luggage transfer, since it was the same group of bell people working both resorts.

They had tagged all the luggage at OKW and drove it over to SSR in a baggage cart and stored it until room was ready. We were notified by cell, text or call - (you pick), when room was ready.

We did a split between BWV, BLT, and VWL last summer. These are separate reservations so yes, you do check out and back in at the new resort.

I did online check in for all of them so that was nice. If you leave a CC with the resorts, you can do express check out (which means you don't have to go to the front desk--if you do not leave a card on file, then you must).

As far as tickets, I believe that once you have them put on the first KTTW card, they can't be transferred to the new KTTW card at the other resorts. And yes, each resort will give you a new KTTW card.

This was one of the reason we did not have the tickets put on the cards (we bought them ahead of time through AAA for two of us, the other two had AP's). I just didn't want to have to worry about that piece and found that carrying tickets and KTTW cards was not really that big of a deal.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for the info! It's been quite helpful. Now I know I should purchase park tickets in advance. I don't think I'll have any trouble keeping track of them either. How much of a discount do you get with AAA?

If you do not have a credit card on file, I believe you have to check out at the desk.
You do get new keys.

I just did in Jan BC to BW no problems. .. except they went through my luggage. Hubby thinks it was cause of the coffee I had brought from home. Something about hiding drugs in it.. Although mine only hid caffine, they did go through my suitcase (and open my coffee). I threw it out .. couldn't think of weird fingers going through my coffee.

Disney went through your luggage????:confused3

It's concerning that your luggage was looked through...was anything missing?

Should I check in to the 2nd resort first thing in the morning, or can I wait until later? If I'm doing the dining plan, will I have two different sets of meals as well?

Whichever is easiest for you I think.

As for the DP it will be different. Technically you could do a meal plan for one ressie and not the other or switch them out if you wanted to. IE: do DxDP for one ressie and regular DP for the next or whichever. BUT any extras won't carry over.

We have always wanted to try the DxDP but not sure it would work for us so this trip coming up we have a split stay and we are doing the DXDP for the first ressie (3 nights) and not doing any DP for the next ressie (2 nights). Figure that was a good way to try it without committing to a week. :)

Do you go to the chat room on the TWIT site? There is a DrMom there that hangs out and talks technology. :)

TWIT? Not sure what it is. I'm not a technology buff either. Medicine, yes...technology, not too much.

I would just be careful to not get yourself locked into a timeframe on the check out/in day. Remember check out is 11 and check in is at 4:00. My bad planning is that we had MNSSHP planned on that day and had dining ressies for 4:00 at LTT (we were checking into AKV). Our room was not ready because they shampooed our carpets. We had to get in because we needed the costume out of the luggage and a place to change. It was a PITA!!!!! Needless to say, we won't be doing another split stay for a while. We figure that with DVC we have enough trips over the next 40 some years that we don't need to do a split stay.

You can actually get any park tickets placed on your first KTTW cards transferred over to your next set of KTTW cards - just not by the CM at the front desk. The Concierge CM's can do this for you. We've done this twice now with no problems.

Our most recent trip (last month) was taken with AP's which can't be put on your KTTW card, so we had both the KTTW and the AP card, but it was absolutely no big deal to have both cards.
