This is my first post! I love these boards and read them daily! My husband and I are going in April for our "honeymoon"! We got married this last July so it's not a traditional honeymoon but it's when we can afford it. We are planning 7 days...I have a reservation booked for AoA currently because we can't afford a deluxe and the moderate selection available isn't what we wanted. This his is first time and my second I have stayed at CBR. We don't want a hotel with construction. We have talked and decided to do a spilt stay! AoA for the first few nights then move onto a deluxe! I have never stayed at one and none of my Disney friends have! Any suggestions?? The last day of our trip we plan on swimming and hanging out! Thank you!
WDW is a great honeymoon destination!
Which deluxe to choose depends somewhat on which theme parks you want to focus on your time in WDW. Both of my children opted to spend their honeymoons in an Epcot area resort. (ETA: they both chose the Dolphin for the savings. It is worth considering.) Many young people like the access to dining in Epcot (requires park hopper tickets), the night activities in the area, the walking or boat access to both Epcot and DHS, the central location and the slightly lower prices than the MK resorts.
For an Epcot area honeymoon in April, I would recommend either the YC or the BWI. The YC has access to Stormalong Bay, which is a really nice swimming pool. It would be a nice place to spend the day. Of course, the BWI has an exciting pool area as well. but the clown face slide is more 'fun' than romantic, at best, and somewhat creepy at worst. BWI does have a quiet pool that is very nice though. I would suggest YC over BC for you because almost all rooms have full size balconies there and there is generally a more adult atmosphere at the YC.
If the castle and the Magic Kingdom are a big attraction for you, then the MK resorts are all awesome. (In fact, I personally think that they are the most romantic of all. But I am a sucker for castles and fantasy!) Perhaps the most romantic is the Poly. The lit tiki torches at night, the beautiful tropical atmosphere, the relaxing music, the view of the castle, the large comfortable rooms and the awesome dining options all combine to make a resort that people consistently love at all ages. The Poly rooms have easy direct monorail access to both Epcot (walk to TTC) and the MK (from GCH). Also the Poly has a really nice boat ride to the MK (shared with the GF). I find it really difficult to pick a favourite overall WDW resort, but the Poly would probably win if I were forced to choose one. It is very busy, though, and a lot of families choose this resort.
Second MK area choice would be the Grand Floridian. It is beautiful and has an elegance to it that is very special. This is where my DH and I celebrated our 45th anniversary (split stay with the BWI) in a Roayla Palm Club Theme park view room. Priceless!!! However, we have stayed in rooms in all the categories here and almost no rooms have a bad view. Staying here will make you feel like royalty!! You are on the monorail and are staying in the top resort in WDW. You will feel very pampered.
Finally, there is the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is so exotic with lots of animals to watch from your balcony. The dining here is incredible and the two pools are both awesome. The rooms re smaller, but very comfortable and significantly less expensive than most of the other deluxe resorts. If you want to feel like you are in another world when you leave the theme parks, this is a great option. Also, note that the pool view rooms are less expensive than savanna view rooms but have really pretty views of the pool area, so that could be a good budget option. There are lots of public viewing area to see the animals throughout the resort.
I would take a look online at pictures of the resorts. Decide upon the theme that appeals to you the most and consider which theme parks you will want the most access to while on that portion of your trip. Then choose the one that makes you both happy.
Bottom line:
YC (Epcot area)
Poly (MK area)
AKL (good value for a deluxe)
Enjoy your honeymoon!!!
