Split Stay - extra magic band or not?

So it's my first time doing a split stay - I've always done my whole vacation at one WDW hotel, but this time I decided to mix it up. My question for you all is about magic bands...

I see I have the option to request one magic band for each part of my stay, which does kind of appeal to me as I could have a couple different colours of the new style of bands. However the Canadian conscience in me scolds me for thinking it and says I shouldn't. Since if I was just staying through at one resort I would only normally get one band and requesting another doesn't seem right.

So I thought I'd open it up to the moral police here and get other people's take. In all honesty I probably won't do it because I'd feel oddly guilty the whole trip, but I was curious to see what the general opinion is. I don't really think it's wrong, nor would I be horrified if someone else did it, I just don't think I can bring myself to do it lol as silly as that probably is

Triple split coming up in two weeks and I ordered three MB'S in three different colors. I see it as being part of the reservation and don't feel guilty about it. If you were going in December and again in January would you feel any differently about it?

Personally, I would pass, since I don't need to color coordinate, don't want extra clutter, and look at it from an environmental aspect. But to each their own, no answer is right or wrong.

I didn't vote because neither option is what I'd say.

The magic band automatically comes with a room reservation.
Its not a question of "should you". This is something you are actually paying for in the price of the room and you are entitled to it.
If you don't want to get two whatever but don't use feeling guilty about something that you are paying for as an excuse.
I would be customizing and receiving both sets without a shred of guilt.

Yup 3 way split for me. But actually 4 (coz different room type at one resort) And getting 4 different magic bands. Not because I want it but they just sent them. LOL

We usually do both sets of MagicBands for our split stays. For our upcoming Thanksgiving trip, we had something strange happen. The MagicBands for the second part of our trip all arrived, but we only received half of the bands for our first stay. I called to ask why, and they had no idea! I was just told that the members of my family who were missing their MagicBands could pick them up at check-in. I think in this case, we will decline our missing MagicBands (unless online check-in ends up not working for us). LOL. No sense going to the desk just for a grey MagicBand. My kids like the colors! We had customized them and everything. We've never had this happen before. Strange.

We have a split stay coming up, and I ordered bands for both stays. We haven't been since Magic Band 2.0 came out, so I figured having a couple colors with different sayings would be fun. I don't feel bad about doing it - they build the price of those things into the room (just like toiletries), so you've already paid for them. Plus you never know when someone might lose one during the trip.

I also have a split stay coming up and am taking both sets of bands. No guilt here. As others have said, they aren't really free. I'm paying for them in the room cost.

On top of that, I doubt the bands cost very much to begin with. I deal with manufacturing a bit through my job, and I'm always surprised how inexpensively products can be made when the quantities are large enough. Since Disney mass produces those things, I'd bet they aren't more than a couple dollars a piece at most and that would include the packaging. It's not like they are sending you a Rolex.

Also, on the practical side, it makes sense to me to have two sets in case one set gets lost or broken. Look at the poster above, one of their sets was lost in the mail or something. It was lucky they took the second set.

If you want multiple colors, go for it.

What happens with the tickets assigned to the magic bands? The only way I could get reservations a short time in advance was doing each night separately. I have an AP so what happens to the band, do I need to do something if I switch which one I am wearing, or assign one specific to be on each reservation?

all your bands will work at the same time. Your tickets are not on the band, they are in your MDE account, the band simply provides access to that acct. I have an almost obsessive thing about matching my clothes, so I bring sometimes 4 magic bands on one trip.

We did a split stay in March this year between two resorts. It was just DH and I, but we ordered two bands each. I really liked having two different colored bands!

Get as many as you can! You are paying for them regardless. Also, we are saving them all and gonna do a countdown to Christmas chain with all of them.

I voted no, because I declined one my last split stay. BUT, I have 5 of the older bands and now 2 of the newer thinner ones, and have 2 trips planned in 2018 before my AP expires, so factor that into my response!

As long as my DH keeps planning Scuba trips, I will be planning Disney/Universal trips!
