hi all im planning a trip for early dec -- i know i need to hurry! this will be our first family trip my oldest will be almost five and we will have a 8 month old. my hubby wants to stay at AKL and i want to stay at contem. is a split stay crazy? we will be driving in. -- if split stay is crazy which resort do u recommend and y? also what are the prime rooms to request in both resorts - u can request rooms right? thanks a million!!

How long will you be staying???

You have young kids- moving would not be worth the effort for me if you stay 6 nights-

However, If you stay 8- then I say go for the split stay!

If you don't go for the split- then I would highly recommend staying at AKL. Your 8y.o. will absolutely adore it there- and so will you. There is so much for family there- story time, watching the animals- great food court area, fun pool, children's crafts and nice sit downeating restaurants as well. Transportation is good here too.

A split stay is an easy thing to do...Disney can move your luggage or you can since you will have a car. You have to consider if you want to dedicate the time to packing and unpacking in the middle of your trip -- especially all that kid gear!

Since your children are so young, staying at the Contemporary would be awesome...it is walking distance from MK (maybe 5-7 minutes) and the monorail in the middle of the hotel is awesome too! The location can't be beat!

Also, if you are getting the Disney Dining Plan, a split stay will make your park tickets more expensive, as I believe you need to buy a package (room and tickets), so if you are staying at 2 resorts w/DDP then you will need 2 reservations/2 packages and would pay more for tickets than if you had one reservation/1 package. I hope this makes sense and helps a little!

The good news is that once you visit Disney w/your kids, you will be planning your next visit soon and may want to try AKL then!

I would not do a split stay with such young children. It is so hard to pack everything up and get situated again. It would almost take away a whole day.

We did a split stay in July with just my DH and I, and it was crazy! I could not imagine it with kids. I would reccomend the Contemporary over the AK because it is a monorail resort and it is so convient to just hop the monorail and go to the MK or Epcot! The only "bad" thing I have to say against AK is that it is really out of the way from most of the parks, so I would think that you would spend a few minutes longer on busses then you would at any other hotel. Hope this helps!

I have done a split stay with little kids, and I will NOT do it again. It took forever to pack everything up, and the we had to unpack everything. Vacation time is just too important to spend on packing. It really took us all day.

I don't think you could go wrong with either AKL or CR. Look at lots of pictures and decide what theme your family would enjoy the most!
