Split stay and split DP?

Hi,
We're first-timers to WDW Aug 19-26. We'll stay at WL with free regular dining Aug 19-23. When I first made the reservation, I thought four days would be enough...

I added three nights at ASMu (just hotel) after realizing four days would not be enough...

This is my question: We're able to use dining credits until midnight on the day we check out, right? I take that to mean we can use the last table service credit at Boma after we have checked out of WL (and after checking in to ASMu). Or am I mistaken?

I'm also wondering if it would be possible to add counter service DP to the three nights at ASMu? Would that interfere with "saving" the TS credit for Boma? Or to say it another way: Does checking into a new resort and starting a new DP cancel remaining credits from another DP?

Yes, your credits are good until midnight of your check-out day and checking into a new resort does not affect that (but you have to keep your prior KTTW cards since they have the dining credits on them).

But to add a dining plan to your 2nd reservation you will have to purchase tickets too and that often is not an economically smart move since it is cheaper to buy 1 longer park ticket than 2 shorter tickets, by a wide margin.

No, as they are two different reservations; but if it's a package reservation and you're not an annual passholder, you'll have to buy at least a 1 day ticket for everybody with the second reservation to get DDP. You'd have to factor in if it would be worth it to buy extra park tickets just to get a DDP.

Not considering a new set of tickets, so that's DP out the window - but that allows us to try out WDW without DP, might be fun, too!

It can work out okay if you're pretty sure you'll be back.

We did a split stay for our 1st trip in '07 and had the dining plan for both parts.

We had as many days of tickets as we needed on the first keycard (to have the extra day savings) and just a one day ticket on the second keycard.

We used the 1st keycard for meals for the 1st part of the trip and the second for the last part of the trip. We only used the 1st keycard for all park days.

We saved the 2nd keycard after that trip because we each still had an unactivated 1 day ticket, so we upgraded those with more days for our 2010 trip and just paid OOP for meals (so we kept the value of the 1 day tickets).

I've noted the OP is from Norway. It's a long trip, but yes if you are planning to come back you can keep 1 day tickets indefinitely. Personally I don't think DDP is a big enough deal anymore to do this, but others may feel differently.

Couldn't you just extend your original stay by 3 days and that would also extend your dining plan for those extra days?

they would have to extend their stay at the same resort...then they could extend dining plan and tickets (and tickets additional days would be very inexpensive tacked onto the original stay.)

But poster is talking about switching to another resort. You can't extend dining & tickets when you switch resorts, has to be booked as a new, separate package so you'd pay for the expensive first few days of the new tickets instead of the cheap add on days (first 3 days of Disney tickets are the expensive part...adding on day 4, 5, 6, etc. is just a few $ a day.)
