Split Stay and Luggage

Hello! We decided to shift our vacation by a day due to Southwest's wow sale flight rates. There was not a VGF studio available to add onto our November stay so I ended up picking up a PVB studio for the first night of our trip. We don't love split stays so I have a waitlist in to replace PVB with a VGF lagoon view resort studio to match our other room. I also have a waitlist for AKV concierge which I know is impossible, but I want to try it out so we would be fine with having to switch resorts to do so if it miraculously comes through. Anyway, my question is if I end up at PVB can I just wheel my own luggage onto the monorail with me and transport it over to the Grand when we switch? I'd delay our grocery delivery to the second day to avoid moving refrigerated items.

You have to go through security screening before boarding the monorail. I'm not aware of any rules which would specifically prohibit luggage on the monorail. (Though that could change at any time.) But the monorail is not really intended for that. I would expect to have to open all suitcases / bags and allow security to dig through it like they would a backpack.

An Uber / Lyft from Poly to GF would be fast, cheap and probably much less intrusive.

Yeah. Drop it off at your bell services. Go to park worry free. Head to new hotel after you get the text or after your day. Call new bell services, they bring it to you. Easy Peasy.

I sure wouldn't call Uber from Poly to GF. Heck, just walk it there if need be.

Technically, luggage is not allowed on the monorail. I've done it a couple times with a carry on, and then Ubered to the airport from MK.

I would not attempt this at a peak time.

VGF/Poly used to be a pleasant walk, but not for another year or two. I did the walk in blazing heat with the construction and it involved two trips across a major road and bad sidewalk situation. Construction could be even worse if parking lots are in play, which they will be at some point.

If you have a lot of bags, just let Disney transfer them and throw and Airtag so you know when they arrive. Or Uber. There's no shame in this Uber.

I'd put the waitlist in for VGF in another view category, just so maybe it does something helpful.

Note to above - the Poly to GF walkway recently closed due to construction of the new tower.

I agree with taking an Uber/Lyft, unless you have nothing but backpacks. And also with WL a different VGF studio.

I did not think about the security line and holding everyone else up if they even let me do it. Uber or Lyft is the way to go i think. The only reason I don't want to use Disney to transfer because it takes soooooo long sometimes. If we decide to plan a resort day, I don’t want to be waiting too late in the day for my luggage. In theory, that should be a quick transfer but you never know. Thank you for the replies!

I’ve read that luggage goes from the first resort to a central location to be sorted, then all luggage to the second resort goes together. So even though your luggage would need to simply hop over from Poly to GF, it wouldn’t go directly there. So taking it yourself via Uber/Lyft is quicker (not to mention, less likely for it to go to the wrong destination).

Tips are expected whenever bell services handles bags. So you're basically doubling the cost by having it picked-up at Poly and delivered to room at GF. Plus the uncertain time delay.

Walking is probably doable...if the temperature is moderate, no rain, and you have no more than 1 (reliable) roller bag per person. If the walking path is open, the current Poly-GF route takes you around an active construction site and across a main road twice.

An Uber for such a short distance would probably cost $15 with tip. I'm a do-it-yourself kinda guy, but there are limits to my...frugality. In this case, I'd probably call a car, toss everything in the trunk and escort over myself while the rest of the family was free to do something else. Better than all of us taking 15 minutes to parade everything over to GF in the Florida climate.

I always track mine. It goes on a van or truck or something directly between resorts, sometimes there's a extra resort or two in there, like BW then BC.

OP said wheel their own luggage onto the monorail. if that is all that is going, it probably would cost $5 when they drop it off at bell services and then $5 when they bring it. If you are indeed frugal, then it is the cheapest option other than walking.

Reviving this thread instead of starting a new one. We are doing our first ever split stay as owners (on two different UY contracts for different home resorts, if it matters) because I miraculously was able to snag a night at BWV over the holidays to tack on to our stay at BCV.

Do I understand correctly that I can call bell services, ask them to take our luggage to our next resort, and they will pick it up at our room in the AM (at which point we will tip them) and take it (through Disney magic/logistics) to the bell desk at our next resort (and it is likely to arrive sometime late afternoon/early evening)?

Ooooh. We have spent many nights at Swan/Dolphin over the years and I was actually eyeing it as a Plan B if none of the other DVC properties we like came available. When is your split stay? I'm very curious to hear how that goes.

We are staying second week in November, but have waitlisted the one night so if that comes through will not be staying at Dolphin. But learned of the luggage option there through these boards, I think as recently as last month someone had used it both to and from Dolphin from other Disney resorts.

Are you suggesting that you might be going from BWV to BC? If so, why use bell services? When I did that split, I just walked across the boardwalk rolling my suitcase. Got a few funny looks! But it worked out to my advantage since my room was ready at 11:15am and I had my suitcase with me.

Yes, I understand that it is close but we have two children, likely several large bags (plus however many souvenirs and Christmas presents they acquire) and one member of our party is disabled. Also, we will likely wake early and head to a park and then not return until late in the day.

I agree it would make much more sense for an adult couple with no handicaps!

I think it was here in the thread already, but if not - if you are having Disney move your bags, be sure to put an airtag or android tile in one of the suitcases so You know where they are at any point. I love this for flights, makes me happy to see it get on the flight with me lol.

if i was staying in one place for one night and then switching the next morning, i think i'd try to leave the bulk of my bags at the second hotel on day 1, if i was comfortable living out of a backpack or smaller bag for a night.
