Hi,
We are thinking about doing a split stay. I have read horror stories about people not having access until 7 pm? How often does this happen?
Thanks!

That has never happened to me, but it can happen. A lot depends on how busy the resort is that day. If there are empty rooms, getting your room early is likely. If the resort is booked, you may have to wait until late in the day.

You should not plan on getting into your room until after 4 PM (when DVC check in time starts), and anything earlier is a bonus.

We just did a split stay at AKV/BWV. We had them move our bags and then spent the day at Epcot. Walked over to BWV at 3:30 and had already done online check in. We were lucky and the room was ready. We even got the view we requested. Worked well for us and we got to try 2 resorts.:goodvibes

Over the last 8+ years, I could count on one hand the number of times someone posted about not getting into a room after 7pm.

Not getting in right at 4pm is more common but still far from commonplace.

Disney's use of the on-line check-in service seems to be doing a better job of getting people into a room upon arrival. They ask guests for their arrival time and reportedly use that to prioritize room assignments. If getting into the room at a certain time is a priority, I'd suggest doing the Internet check-in and listing a reasonable arrival time.

On New Year's Day a few years ago, the guests who had been in our villa threw a big NYE party in the villa, didn't clean it up and headed to the parks instead of checking out. They weren't out until about 4PM. It took every housekeeper they could find to clean the room and get rid of the trash. We got into the room about 6PM.

It happens, but not as often as people get in the villa closer to 4.

But it is one reason why we never do a split stay.

The latest I've gotten in during a split stay (or any stay) was 5:30PM. We went from OKW to BCV (2 bedrooms). The little ones took a nap in the atrium at the BCV (so did the big ones). We would never do that again if it can be avoided. We did not like being without a room most of the day and we had a 1yo and 3yo with us.

We had a Beach Cottage at VB....yes it was to die for. Previous guests really made a mess and we didn't get in until 5:30.

We're a couple of weeks back from a split stay at SOG/BLT. We did the online check in as well. We arrived at BLT about 11am, our room was ready and our requests honored. We were given a beautiful head on view of the lake and pool as requested. I don't know if this is normal at BLT. When we walked into BLT and the castmember at the desk helped us locate our room, she commented that we must be personal friends of "Mickey" to have our room ready at that time of the day.

we did a split stay 3 weeks ago for fall break and we got in to jambo house animal kingdom and got a room at 12, then we got our room at wilderness lodge at 1. Bell service does all the moving of the lugage and all you have to do is show up. plus when your new like us it is a great way to see more of the resorts that you haven't been to yet

Earlier this month we had a split stay from Jambo to Beach Club Villas. Our BCV villa was ready at 12 noon. That same thing happened last year when we did the same move. Sometimes we get a room after 4PM, but that has been very very rare.

We did a split stay last year during Spring Break. We started out at BWV and moved to SSR. We did not get in our room until 6:00, but we did get the view we requested. It was a busy time to be at Disney, so I am sure it depends on when you are going. We really enjoyed getting to stay at 2 resorts with 2 very different locations!

My range has been from 7am to 3:30pm, but i check in at 7am.

we have teenagers and leave them in bed. Get up around 7 and go over to the next resort. Check in and out of the 3 times we've done this the room was ready all 3. Went back over to the original resort, woke up the girls, packed and moved. Great timing.

We are doing a split stay starting this Saturday.
Night 1 - Coronado Springs, arriving via rental car after 3PM.
Nights 2-8 SSR Treehouse Villas
Night 9 - BWV Studio
We will have a rental car, so I plan on checking out of Coronado Springs, meeting our Grand Gathering for an early dinner, then checking into SSR-THV.
I realize that on Sunday 10/31 I will have to wait for the BWV.
I'm excited to be staying in the treehouse villas.

I hope they charged them for a cash night.

We have done a few split stays and a few times the room was ready when we arrived another by 3:30-4pm.

Last trip we checked out of BCV drove to BW and moved right in.

I think it is pretty rare to have a very late room ready unless a guest over extends or there is a maintance problem. I would not expect a room before 4 and just plan your day with other things to do.
