split party, DDP and no DDP

If we eat at a TS rest. with my M-i-l one day and we have the dining plan and she does not, do we need to get separate checks??

you don't have to get separate checks, but they will want a credit card, cash or put it on your resort room charge for her meal. Disney will not let you use one of your meal credits to pay for MIL's meal.

I'm pretty sure you do, just automatically, get separate checks. Only DDP-credit items go on the DDP slip.

Best thing to do, check with your server before you order.

You will automatically get seperate checks. There have been times we paid OOP for DS to get a kids meal (instead of an adult meal with his credits) and seperate checks were brought for our DDP meals and his. Not a big deal at all, just let your server know before you order who's using DDP and who is not

You answered your own question. We did this very thing at Le Cel in Jan. And of course, we all had to have the soup. Our bill was for the soup and our tip, and Becki's was for her meal and tip. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.
