Hello :) Hoping you seasoned travelers can help me! :goodvibes

I decided to split our outbound trip up this yr. to save on jet lag, and to break the trip up into a more comfortable chunk of flying time.

We depart Edmonton on Sept 27 with West Jet at 6PM....arriving in Toronto around 11:30 PM. We are staying the night inside the airport at the Gateway Sheraton....Club Level floor so we can grab breakfast in the AM.....

We then continue on to the second leg of our flight , departing Toronto at 10:30AM and arriving in Orlando around 1:15PM.....

My questions concern customs.....Do we clear customs for our flight on the second leg// when we check in at Toronto for the 10:30 AM departure??? or is it done the night before?? Do we collect our luggage // then re-check it the next AM??? I am thinking we should hold onto our Magical Express Yellow tags and put them on the luggage the next morning if this is when we clear customs, etc.....

Anyone with split trip experience, could you chime in some advice to help me make this transfer smoother :) I have paid our seat selection price, and thankfully our seats follow us through BOTH legs of the flight.....I looked at the itinerary, and we keep our same seats the next morning on the Toronto to Orlando leg as we had the night before.

I thought it would be nice instead of doing the red eye, and waiting 5 hours in the airport early Sept 28 for the 10:30 am flight, if we at least got to get some rest/sleep to prepare for the excitement on Sept 28! NO one is going to want to hit the sack once in Disney, at least by getting some sleep the night before, we will be in a little better shape to begin our day! :yay:

Good plan,

We did the same thing this past March break and it worked well (but substitute Ottawa for Edmonton, AC for WJ, and no ME tags for us).

Your bags will be checked through to Toronto only on your first leg and you will collect them at baggage claim. The access to the Sheraton is very good as it is same terminal as WJ, indoors all the way, (monorail from terminal 1, but WJ is in T3 so doesn't apply to you). If you have a lot of bags, you might want a cart, but not necessary if the bags have good wheels.

You will clear customs in Toronto in the morning with your baggage. Customs is always from your last point of departure in Canada. I would wait to put your ME tags on in Toronto; no need to cause any potential confusion for the baggage handlers.
