Better safe than sorry I always say... Double bag it! I thought about doing this 2 years ago when we had just gotten our iPhone 4s, and went on SM. We got off that ride completely soaked head to toe, but our phones were DRY!

We go to the outdoor shop and buy bags that you'd use for on the water. They are more expensive than a zip-lock bag but are reusable and we know with confidence that they are safe.

Might want to do a little research on that one. Well-known tech journalist Leo Laporte got it done on his iPhone, dunked it to test and it died. Immediately. (Google "Laporte and Liquipel" for details.) You're probably better off with the Ziploc bag.

I know its a hit and miss product since there is really no way to test the quality.

If you read Liquipel's website, they arent meant to be dunked into a glass of water. They are meant to protect it from water such as, in this case, Splash Mountain.

They said that if this does actually happen, u drop it in water, turn it off and put it in rice ASAP like any other phone. the chance of ur phone being able to operate afterwards.

There are a ton of videos of people dropping it in water and it still works... I think ill do this to my new iPhone 5 just as a safety barrier... but i aint gonna drop it in a glass of water to show off, lol.

As far as saving electronic devices dipped in water.. the first thing is always to remove the source of power. I know on the iphone this is difficult due to the way its designed but.... if you want it to live the best way is to remove power.. extract water.. via uncooked rice or silica gel then cross your fingers.

Rice works, even if you do it late. DD dropped her phone in the toilet while we were driving from CA to ID to visit my oldest DD. When we got to oldest DD's house we put the phone in rice and left it for 2 days, it worked when we turned it back on. The time between was about 6 hours.

We went on splash mountain twice today...anyway,'my iPhone was in a pocket in my baggalini and I had it in a case...then I got soaked....

I took it out later..and realized it is now stuck in headset mode and will not turn off...even with a hard reset... I have tried everything I googled on fixing the problem...but.still doesn't work.

So, beware!!

And,, if you have any ideas, please let me know.

I did not take the time to read all the posts, but I dropped my Android phone in the toilet a while back and was able to take it apart, take the batter out and leave it in a bag of dry rice for a few days. Once I put it back together it was completely dried out and as good as new. You might try that with you iPhone.

Taking out the battery and then placing in rice is definitely good advice for any smartphone having been exposed to water, however iPhones cannot be taken apart easily, nor can their battery be removed (this is not true with most Androids). Also, I believe opening an iPhone voids its warranty and if that's done Apple probably will not fix it for you, even if you have AppleCare; again this is not usually the case with an Android.

If you can take out the battery, make sure to place it in rice as well. You can use the same bag, just keep it separate from the phone. Also, for any phone, the bigger the amount of uncooked rice, the better to some extent, since more rice -> greater surface area -> more water absorbed away.

Well, the rice thing worked to a point. I could start using it again, but the phone was still set into headset mode. So, I went to the Genius bar at the Apple Store today...luckily, my DH had purchased AppleCare. So, my phone was replaced for $50. Important lesson!!! Baggies next time!!!!!

Just out of curiosity, did you try blowing out the headphone jack with the compressed air? I know it's too late now, but keep that in the back of your mind in case your phone decides to go for a swim again.

Whew, good hubby! Rice really does work but if you pay for the replacement service, it's the way to go! Rice has saved a couple phones for me. I don't dunk 'em but somehow I always accidentally sit them in puddles. UGH.

I have used my phones through baggies before and they do still work. Both a regular phone and a smart phone

Aw you should have taken this as an opportunity to get a GOOD phone, like Galaxy S or Nexus
