Splash mountain - WET?

Speaking as the only wet person in the family after many rides, It is the luck of the draw and I do not "draw" very well. I have gotten my upper body wet in the back row and front row. I have been deluged by falling water in row three while our log was backed up. My bottom gets wet from sitting on the seat. Ponchos really help but I like to ride on hot afternoons wearing quick dry clothing.

Like others, I've had rides where I've barely gotten wet at all and others where I've been soaked. Sitting closer to the front will get you more wet than sitting towards the back. And in my experience, I tend to get wetter when sitting on the right side versus the left.

It can vary drastically from ride to ride.
Sometimes I only get a little wet and other times I get absolutely soaked.
A lot depends on how much weight is in the log and whether the timing is a bit off or not.
This is why I now choose to just wear a poncho.
I love the ride itself but I'd rather not take chances and be soaked all day.
And even if you wear quick drying clothes unless that includes underwear you're still gonna feel swampy all day if you happen to get soaked.

Am I the only one who's disappointed when they don't get wet on a water ride?! Surely that's what you're there for!

I always seem to get wet when i sit at the very very front car, right side. Never fails. I'd get pretty soaked. Its fun! :)

I'm OK with getting a little wet, but I don't wear the "I sat in the bathtub with my clothes on" look very well.

The closer to the front, the wetter you tend to get. Much of my discomfort comes from sitting down in water already on the seat so I take a hand towel from the resort and wipe down before we sit.

I just tie my rain jacket around my waist when we get in to keep my pants dry, and then I have it handy if it looks like we are going to get stuck near the spray. I usually stay pretty dry this way.

I know it's possible, but personally, in the probably 15 times I've ridden it since the refurb, I have never gotten wet at all. I guess we were lucky.

Gotten wet many times, sat on wet benches and had our feet in an inch of water. Seems hit or miss with the water level, boat weight and timing but it's good they put out a warning because it is certainly not uncommon anymore.

DS gets upset if he doesn't get wet yet hates rain.

At Universal in the rain with ponchos on because he insisted yet when he gets to Jurrassic Park and Ripsaw Falls and the Popeye Raft he takes his poncho off ...........

If I were going on a regular old log ride at my small local amusement park the purpose would be to get wet.
Splash Mountain however is much more than just a plain old log ride to me.
I enjoy the storyline, the music, and the drops.
What I don't enjoy is walking around from 10am to 10pm with wet clothing and wet underwear that will not dry.

I think a lot of it has to do with the amount of weight in the boat. Ive gotten soaked before and also left the ride dry. The more weight in the boat the more rocking the boat does in between the drops. The more rocking that occurs, they more water gets splashed into the boat.

We had rode Splash tons of times before and we never got more than a sprinkle. In May we were there with my MIL and I assured her oh, no worries we never really get that wet. She ended up soaked. I'm pretty sure she thinks I lied to her on purpose.....:sad2::sad2::sad2:

The person who gets into the boat first gets less wet than the person on the right usually. My daughter always forces herself into the ride first so I get stuck by the waterfall. Every single time. That being said we don't usually get too wet unless we sit in the front couple rows. I usually take my jacket on with me and hold it up to deflect the water when I inevitably get stuck by the waterfall. It is our favorite ride.

These threads about "how wet" on various rides do crack me up.

So happy it cracks you up when people are drenched that would rather not be! I 'will not' ever ride that ride again until I'm ready to leave the park. It's such a lovely ride too.

The last time dh & I rode (first thing, of course) there was not a dry thread left on me or my hair - totally ruined me - left the park immediately to have a complete 're do'.
Was the first time I was more than 'splashed'!! Looked like a drowned rat! Was 'not' a happy camper! >:(

Some of it depends on how deep the water is in the track as well. Expect a wave surge if you go on after a good rainfall.

This is not just a water ride, never used to get more than a mild 'splash' which was fine - 'not' a drenching'!

:thumbsup2 I could not agree more!!!!

The left side gets less wet than the right side and front gets more wet than the back unless the people in the front are short or duck!!

Yes!!!! Every time we've been on Kali, we walk away pretty much DRY! Our whole point was to get soaked... especially the last time in 90+ degree weather.

Surely you're joking, right? Yes, I'm amused by people who go on a water based ride and complain about getting wet. You have to go for a complete "re do" because you rode SM? Sorry to hear it. If you actually get "mad" because you got wet on a water ride and got wet, then perhaps it's not the right ride for you. Water doesn't "totally ruin" me or anyone in my family. We all go on expecting...and hoping on a hot day...to get wet. But each to their own I guess. Even the name of the ride tells you that you may get wet...Splash Mountain...it's not Drizzle or Mist Mountain.

Maybe it's just me, but I also don't understand the comments about being wet for an entire day from riding something like SM. We typically go to WDW in mid-summer, during the hottest and most humid days. We've been drenched by Kali, which has...or at least used to have...far, far bigger splashes than SM has ever had, and it didn't take more than a few hours before we were completely dry again.

I guess it's all in perspective. For us, some of the fun of getting on a water ride is not only the expectation you may get wet, but the anticipation if it's going to be you or the person next to you. It's a lot of fun for me and my family. If it really bothers you, then I'd agree...don't ride it.
