Splash Mountain vs. Expedition Everest

I hadn't ridden Splash in about ten years but I tried it last weekend. It wasn't as bad as I remembered but it was worse than Everest. I say that because I enjoy the backwards part but I really dislike drops. The drop on Splash seems so much worse!!! What has really helped me is taking a deep breath and putting my chin to my chest. I used to always breathe out during the drop and I completely lost my stomach that way.

For Splash there are two drops just before you get to the laughing place... And you can't miss the last one!! The two first drops are smaller but still tummy turners for me. However- even hating drops the way I do I strongly feel everyone should ride Splash once. It is beautiful inside!! Don't leave without trying it once!!

I hate drops too, but I promised myself that I would ride Splash Mountain last year, just to show my son that if I could overcome my fear, he should be able to as well. For people who hate drops, that last one is a doozy, I will say...I closed my eyes and practically covered my son with my entire upper body..it feels like you're going off the edge of the world. That being said, it was over quickly, we were proud of ourselves for doing it and we don't have to "wonder" about it anymore. I encourage you to do it, for that reason alone. It isn't something I'll ride again, though.

Now, if I could just get up the nerve to ride EE, TofT and RnRC....:scratchin

I agree with the others....EE is much more intense then Splash, therefore if you liked EE, then you will most definitely like Splash. The one thing about Disney coasters is that the Imagineers do an amazing job at making rides look worse then they really are. The first time I rode Splash I was scarred to death. After I rode it, I immediately wanted to get back on and do it again, all the while laughing at how silly I was for thinking it would be worse then any of the other rides. And the best part, just like EE, if you don't like it you don't have to ride it again :goodvibes. Good luck and have a fun.

In my opinion the drops of EE and splash are sort of similar. EE is so fast, and the banking takes some of the sensation away for me. Also, EE you are kind of moving quickly all through the ride, while SM is melllow most of the ride, with the worst drop at the end. So even though EE is bigger, they feel similar. Keep in mind there are small and medium drops inside SM, so it is more than just the final drop

If it's any consolation, the drop on SM is actually about the same length as the one in Pirates! It's just a little bit steeper, and you can't see it.

Whenever these quesions come up, I refer folks to the great coaster database. It comepares rides all over the world. I don't think Splash is on it, but nearly all coasters worldwide are, so you can compare the math with rides you've experienced at other parks.

Here's one way to put Splash in perseptive, count to three slowly and it's over. Take a deep breath when you are about to go down, and yell/exhale on the way down. It will be over before you inhale again.

Awww, you can handle that, right?:groom::wave2:

SM is a bigger "drop" sensation because of the slow ascent, EE you go into it quickly so it doesn't build that panic feel at the apex.

This said, if you can ride EE then you can ride anything at WDW. EE is by far the most intense ride imo.

More intense than ToT? I have done everything but ToT just because I am nervous about the constant drops. What is the longest drop that one can experience on ToT?

Splash Mt is nothing compared to EE or RnR. EE is much faster and has the curve at the bottom.

I've done Splash many times without the lap bar and "no hands". It is a fun ending to a great ride. Do it, you'll love it, especially if it is hot and they have all the water canons on.

I guess I'm in the minority... but to me the Splash drop feels more intense than EE. With that being said, it's fast and over quick and the rest of the ride is super cute and fun. Don't let the drop stop you. ;)

This is what I worry about, because the drops do me in. Send me backwards, jerk me around, etc., but big drops just make me feel like I can't breathe. I handled EE's drop well, but if Splash gives you more of that drop feeling, I don't know....

I think you would be surprised if you tried EE. I didn't think the biggest drop felt much worse than the drops on Space Mountain. That's why I was asking about Splash. The backwards part was weird, but did not give me the stomach drop feeling at all.

Dare I ask how big the drop is on EE? I haven't been to AK since it was built.

According to Wikipedia, the main drop for Everest is 80 ft. Not sure of the angle. This drop is inside the mountain, unlike Splash's drop. Splash's drop is 52 ft at a 45 degree angle, again, according to Wikipedia.

I love them both, but Splash is way less intense than EE...you will enjoy it! Have fun!

I know how you feel, I hate rides with drops and always feel so bad for not going on them that being said I have ridden EE and found it to be pretty good, I didn't feel too bad in the end. I remember SM several years ago but do not remember the drop. I have not ridden ToT or RnR at all, I am terrified to ride ToT to tell you the truth. I was trying to ge my 10 year old to ride it on our last trip and I told him to look at all of the younger kids that were coming off of the ride laughing and that I didn't want him to be like me and be afraid of the ride. He ended up riding ToT and loved it but he said, "okay remember what you told me? the same goes for you" so next time I HAVE to ride it ;)

Okay, so I would have to be paid $10,000 in order for me to ride ToT. I am SERIOUS! That is not something I could ever consider fun.

I also HATE the drop sensation, but for me there is NONE on ToT. It is more "whooshing" up and down. I love ExE, but still hate SM--I have vowed to ride it next time though! I will try the chin to chest technique!

Actually, Everest's drop is outside the mountain. If you're walking by the attraction, you can see it.

At any rate, it's a considerably longer drop than the Splash drop.

Ya know, I have to agree with this. I don't really care for drops either, although I have learned to enjoy Splash Mountain - am still working on EE! :) The thing that gets me about ToT is feeling like I'm confined in a small box. I'm a little claustrophobic and it gets worse as I get older. :( I rode it for the first and only time in September last year and I was surprised that the drops really didn't bother me that much. If I could just get past the claustrophobia, I would definitely ride it again.

ETA: Oh, and BTW, with Splash, I just told myself that it would only last a few seconds and Disney would not do anything to hurt me. :) Just do like I do and close your eyes and screammmmmmmmmm!

As pp's have said, Splash is nothing compared to everest, the drop is there, and there's anticipation for it, but it's a lot more of a story ride than a coaster. Also be aware that you go over a couple of smaller drops in the ride, one in the dark. However, you'll be more than ok after EE

I didn't end up doing it. Maybe later in the week. My friend insisted on spinning us on the teacups after a big breakfast at Crystal Palace and that messed my stomach up for the rest of the day(or it was the food, not sure...)
