Splash Mountain to become Princess and the Frog ride

I sure did. I myself have waited in plenty of line over an hour for Splash.
Really? Maybe it's the time of year we go! I haven't waited in line for it since I was a teenager, and it's never one of our fastpasses (I have a brother that prefers the more thrilling mountains for that!)

Now I have a feeling I'll be fighting much longer lines though!

Edit: I've been proven wrong, at least according to this: https://***************.com/disney-world-magic-kingdom-wait-times/

I will say I go in late April before it gets too hot, so I usually see it with shorter lines than Jungle Cruise and BTTR.

It was an example. People clamor for Horizons to this day but we have survived without it.

I think another recent example is when they rethemed Tower of Terror out in CA to Guardians of the Galaxy - people were losing their minds about that ... but then the ride reopens and people actually like the new version and things have been pretty quiet since

The ride is based upon the folklore that appeared in the movie which happened to be around for quite some time before the movie. Not sure that makes the ride entirely themed after the movie Song of the South. Disney has a long history of taking existing folklore or existing stories that are in the public domain and spinning them into their own stories and movies.

"It's a film about Uncle Remus, set in post slavery reconstruction Georgia in the 1800's where all of the people of color in the film are SUPER happy about everything - which is problematic" Not sure I understand your reasoning here. Would it have not been as problematic is they were unhappy in the movie?

In the folklore stories from SotS, Br'er Rabbit is suppose to represent a black slave and Br'er Fox the slave owner.

We usually go in August and the standby is generally in the 60-90 min range if not longer and all the FPs are gone before the day starts

I think time of year has a lot to do with it (and just weather/temperature) - when it is hot it gets a long line when not so much it can be a very short wait

Yeah, but only because the original version still exists at WDW. I'd be cool if they were only doing this at DL.

Im forever bitter towards Mission Space.

I actually like Mission: SPACE, but it's no Horizons. I understand there were severe structural issues with the building which is so unfortunate. Maybe it will one day return.

No it’ll probably take agonizingly long and go beyond when they said it would. 😂

The quality of the refurb is my concern. Their track record when overlaying existing attractions is iffy.
Lol their overlay game is worth questioning, but I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt here that since they’re touching an icon and it’s going to piss off a lot of people, and the fact that it’s going to be a ride that represents a princess of color and is AMERICA’S princess - that they’ll get it right. At least that’s my hope.

It’s me. I’m people.

It fit more into MGM Studios than Hollywood Studios. Disney didnt own like 90% of the movies in that ride. They were going to have to change it, and if they kept it Great Movie Ride, they would have replaced it with Star Wars, Marvel, and Pirates of the Caribbean scenes.

I’d much rather MMRR (even though I havent ridden it yet) than whatever Disney would have done to Disneyfy GMR

Man though, imagine a "Great Disney Movie Ride" presented in a similar manner? Oh what that could have been!

This is no time for logic. Nostalgia doesn’t care 🙃
