Lots of attractions (classic ones even) have changed, but I don't remember the outrage quite like this.

Joke (noun): something said or done to promote laughter. Ex: what Disney does to its guests for a quick laugh by tempting them to take a raft ride over to Tom Sawyer island only for them to find it a complete waste of their time

In the big picture, it is a small thing to give up as part of the evolution of our country to one that truly reflects the ideals of equality. As long as we hold onto things that gloss over or romanticize slavery and racism, for no other reason than tradition and nostalgia, we perpetuate the notion that one race matters less than others. As mentioned, the folktales from the movie don't take place anywhere - they come from old Native American and African American stories. They made it fit by tweaking the music for each park.

Agreed! It is a statement. And given my kids' reactions to Splash Mountain, I think one their generation will truly appreciate.

Splash Mountain merchandise is flying off the shop site. The 3 pack of funko pop’s that have been sitting on the site for almost a year just sold out

Over in eBay, those things are getting priced crazier than Trader Sam's Halloween tiki mugs. I saw one of funko's go from $74 to $300 after this was announced.

When the Magic Kingdom reopens, he race at rope drop to the Splash Mountain gift shop is gonna put Seven Dwarves Mine Train to shame. And I cannot even imagine the outlet mall thunderdome if they dump all that stuff there.

While I don't think that would come as a surprise, I think the biggest difference is that Disney has pretended for years that Song of the South didn't happen. In Dumbo's case, they at least put it on D+ acknowledging the problematic scenes

Not the end of the world...but mark my words...the end of WDW as we know it...this is just the beginning for those of us that used to love this magical place that was once a way to escape reality....no more...better get used to it
