Splash Mountain FEAR

Unreasonable I'm sure....
But I've had it for about 6 years. Never have been on it because I found out there are no seat belts, but rather those low handles. I have some sort of brain block about those low handles! Soarin has those and I cant get thru that one with my eyes open.
Just looking for encouraging word, or advice because I TOTALLY PLAN ON doing it this time!!!!! HELP!

What is your fear exactly? Are you afraid to go on the ride because there is no seat belt and you're afraid to fall out? Or do you have some irrational fear of low handles??

Soarin' has a seat belt so I don't understand the comparison?

My abnormally huge 3.5 year old DD went on it and not only lived to tell the tale, but won't stop talking about.
There's one major "waterfall" (as DD puts it) and the rest is cake.

For my son,when he was younger i used to sit behind him and scoot forward and wrap my arms around his waist as a seatbelt. Only for the bigger drop tho,he was fine w/ the others.

Fears are weird. I'll do Spash in a heartbeat. But my fear of heights gets the best of me and I haven't done Soarin' in years (after being on the top row and looking down at the control area when they clicked on a pen light for some reason). My hubby will do Soarin' with our two daughters - but it's my oldest and I solo on Splash.

Don't worry. You know what I do on the big drop? I grip the handles and press my legs/knees into the sides of the back of the seat in front of me lol. Just the seat, not the person haha

Ive never been a ride person. I get sick easy. Our first trip with our 8 kids my husband took all the kids on splash, even our 5 year old twins and I was freaking out thinking about them going on it. Well they had fun. Then in March I took 2 of our boys to WDW so I felt like I had to go with them. I took dramamine and lived splash. We did it 6 times at least. I didnt realize it had this whole storyline inside because I could only focus on the drop. Well Dh and I did DL in December and I couldn't wait to so splash. But it wasn't the same. Single log. Went fast and no bars and we got super wet even though we were in the back. Gravity keeps you in your seat. I will have to try it again but wasnt jumping to go again in december. You need to try it once. I found it easiest to look out and after the camera takes your picture then hold on. I tried screamin and tot but they arent for me. Sorry for the typos im on my phone. I meant to say loved not lived splash.

I actually haven't ridden Splash with the lapbars yet. I've only been on it with absolutely nothing keeping my in my seat.

Well, except for physics! There's absolutely NO need for bars or belts or anything on Splash, not for anyone. The only reason they put them in was to control the doofuses who would like to purposely *get out*.


The big drop, for me, is much easier from the very back. Thought the front was better for me for awhile, then rode in the back and realized I'd been wrong that whole time.

I am a baby when it comes to rides, and I go on Splash...I know what you mean though, I have that same thought, and what scares me (still) is when my hands get wet, and if I feel like I can't hang on because they slip, I feel like I'm going to fall forward. Hasn't happened yet and I've been on it quite a few times and plan on going again next month! I just keep wiping my hands on my pants to dry them, works for me! I LOVE Soarin' that is my favorite ride, I never worry about the height, sometimes I get dizzy from some of the scenes, but it's so incredible, that I just have to do it!! Hope you can get on Splash, you'll love it!

I hate drops!! I have been on Splash, but I won't go again. I barely tolerate Pirates. I will only go on BTMR in the evening after a glass of wine I am always shocked that THAT ride doesn't have seat belts!
I don't do any other ride that has a drop.

But it doesn't sound like the OP has a problem with drops...

The way I've read it described is that it's a lapbar; only thing close to that I've been on is Dudley Doo-right log flume ride at Universal, where it's a lapbar that comes down (and makes it much harder to get into the ride).

So I don't understand "low bar"... Guess I'll see it soon, though!

They aren't really "bars" per say, not the kind that go over your abdomen, they are railings inside the logs on each side of you that you can hang onto. Often they get wet, so you have to constantly dry your hands in order to get some grip. Otherwise, you are on your own....yikes!

Soarin' not only has a seatbelt, but you can even make it more secure by using the middle insert that is suppose to be for kids. I used that middle part (threading the seatbelt through it) for a whole year while I got use to riding that ride. It can help you feel really secure, for those that have fear of heights on that ride. Now I never use it, and Soarin is my all time favorite ride.

I am a true scaredy cat--I use to be terrified of the drops in Pirates, even. I would have my son "warn" me before each one and would brace myself like I was plunging to my death. Now I am fine on that ride.

I have ridden Splash twice now, and both times hated the drop beyond belief. It really ruins the ride for me--it is just too long, and yes--I would love some kind of safety bar or lap belt. I know they have the low side bars to hang on to, but I honestly don't think that is enough. It is a shame because it is such a nicely themed ride.

So I don't blame you for being freaked out about Splash.

I'm a numbers girl, so when I think about the thousands of people who ride Splash Mountain... seems so much safer than getting in a car, so I don't worry about that. I actually really enjoy rollercoasters in general because it is about the most thrilling experience I can get while feeling absolutely safe. (Yes, accidents happen, but like I said... I'm a numbers girl. I like my odds.)

Why I don't ride Splash Mountain anymore? I always get DRENCHED no matter where I sit, and then I am miserable and/or cold for hours. Plus it always has long lines for such a short ride. A lose/lose situation if I ever saw one!

Im the kind of person (ok, maybe the ONLY person) who has this fear of bridges: I dont think Ill fall off, trip, or anything... I actually get it in my head that I will uncontrollably RUN to the edge and THROW myself over.

SOmething about SPLASH reminds me of THAT.

Well at least I can still laugh at myself about it all, so I must not be too far gone. Yet.

I AM GOING TO DO SPLASH.
...and for Soarin'... Ill do what I always do: Take off my shoes (flip flops) and tuck my feet into that little baggy below the seat. For some reason that gives me some mental control. (I already do use the kiddy center strap )

If I was totally normal, would I Love DL as much as I do?
I just dont think so ;-)

My DD6 (almost 7) did Splash, Soarin, ToT and Jurrasic Park with me.... loved them all except Splash, and only because we got drenched.

I love Splash, and any rides with drops. I scream my head off, but I love them. Our Splash photo is funny because there you see me screamin' my head off, and my DD6 with a frozen smile on her face
