Splash mountain drop question

Thank you all for your input!! Still not sure what I will do. Once our 3 year old is tall enough then I will probably do it for sure, just not sure about this year. It is the anticipation!!

It's really not that bad. We skipped it on our first trip but I did it with my son our 2nd trip and I loved it. I am not a big drop person either but it really did not seem bad at all. I even put my arms up.

You could ask yourself "what's the worst that could happen?" and see if you are ready. I don't think anyone can decide for you since we can't know how afraid you'd feel. I personally love SM and all it's features. My DH was afraid to go on Mission Space when it first opened. He tried to go a couple of times and left at the last minute. A couple days later, he did go on it and loved it. He gets motion sickness, but it wasn't a problem for him. You never know what you're missing until you try it.

If you can ride Space Mountain, you'll make it, lol. I love Splash Mountain, there are two smaller drops to give you a sense of what to expect. I can't stand that final drop, but the boat ride is so pleasant to me, it's worth it.

I don't think it's that big at all. It's shorter than some other log rides that I've been on. I would give it a try if I were you.

How would you compare the inside drop to Maelstrom or Pirates? I will go on these but I am so afraid of SM and my kids are begging me to go on it. I do want to see the story, just don't like drops!

The drop on Splash is longer than the POTC drop, but it seems like it goes by just as fast. As a previous poster said, I typically find myself preoccupied with making sure my glasses don't fly off and trying to stay somewhat dry so I really don't even notice the drop.

There's a drop in it, and you don't like drops, so I don't think you'll enjoy that particular part (even if it is mild, as others have been saying). But that said, the rest of the ride is very cool, and your kid really wants you to ride it with her... Why not just do it once for them? You won't fly out of the boat, I promise.

I think if you have been on SM and BTM you will not have a problem. My daughter loved it from the time she was 3 (although she is a dare-devil). It is worth it just to see the inside of the ride at least once.

My BF hates drops, and Splash Mountain is his favorite ride at WDW. The drop looks WAY worse than it really is. It happens so quickly, it's over before you know it's happening. And as someone else previously mentioned, it's only a 45 degree angle drop, not straight down.

Just go on and try it! You may surprise yourself and love it! Or you may hate it... But you'll never know unless you try.

It's feels more like a rough dip than a smooth drop like pirates. I didn't know there was one inside when I rode and when it came back up I hit my head on the padding in front of my seat. I'm not sure how I managed that. It seemed very rough to me. I've only rode once though, so I doubt the head-hitting experience is the norm.

On POTC an Maelstrom, by the time you think "I'm going down a hill", you are at the bottom.

On SM's inside hill, you enter a dark cave and think "What the French toast!?! Why am I on a hill? Still on it. Now I am going up! Now down! What the French toast was THAT?!?!" and then you are back in light.

I was going to say this same thing. I think it depends if you just don't **like** drops, or if you have a true phobia. I can do something I don't **like** one time and live with it and get through it or be fine. But I don't want to be in a room with or see a snake for even one second and would do an awful lot to avoid it. So I think you just have to ask yourself where you fall on the "comfort zone" spectrum: close enough that you can live with it one time, or far enough to the phobia end that the fear would overshadow all else.

I was terrified of going on SM before I did. And now I love it. However I must say that the first time I rode it I was so preoccupied about the drop and when it was coming that I wasn't able to enjoy any of the ride and the story behind it. So I would say if you make it through you might want to ride again to get the whole picture!!!

Go on the ride with your little one!! The attraction is one of the most adorable in the scenes you will pass...full of great music. Go for it, at least once!

I would agree with some of the previous posters that the "drop is not nearly as bad as it looks". Most of the time people are trying not to get wet and it doesn't have the same feel as a roller coaster in your stomach.

I hope that you go on because you will be pleasantly surprised at the entire ride itself. It is absolutely awesome!

Try this trick, it cured my hatred of drops! (I read it on these boards).

As you begin to drop, take a deep breath and exhale slowly all the way down. It keeps your stomach right where it should be

It looks bad but its really not bad. By the time you start to scream and feel it in your stomach its over and you're cruising in your log at the bottom!

I can't stand log rides or anything like that. BTMRR shook me around a lot & was faster than going down the drop on SM. DH & I both looked at each other after the drop & said "is that it?" It was practically nothing & I was still waiting for the "real" drop. We rode at night and the view of the castle lit up was amazing. Of course, I closed my eyes immediately after we got to the top so I didn't see it long!

We watched people going down the drop on SM several times before we rode it and I still keep wondering what those people were screaming about!
