Confirmed in the app. Probably not for the retheming as they would have announced that. Recent historical closure dates:
  • Feb 4-14, 2019 (10 days)
  • Jan 2-Apr 13, 2018 (101 days)
  • Oct 3-Nov 3, 2016 (31 days)
  • Feb 8-18, 2016 (10 days)
  • Jan 12-Mar 30, 2015 (77 days)
  • Jan 21-Feb 27, 2014 (37 days)
  • Jan 22-Feb 14, 2013 (23 days)
  • Jan 18-May 26, 2011 (128 days)
  • May 17-27, 2010 (10 days)

Saw this and we're bummed, first trip to Disney for my kids and my husband. Oh well I was wondering if we'd be warm enough anyhow.

so they aren't going to retheme at all? or just postponed?
The current scheduled downtime appears to be just usual seasonal maintenance.

When the retheme was announced, there was no specific timeline announced. Apparently no work had been done yet beyond the basic concept, so the thinking is that it could potentially be years before the retheme is complete.

For reasons that I have not seen explained, there are people in the blogosphere talking about rumors that the retheme might never happen. But that is just speculation based on I’m not sure what. There has been no official announcement about the retheme being canceled.

So, the re-theme has not been canceled, and it has not been postponed. It’s just a long-term project going on behind the scenes.

The retheme is years away. It is VERY early in the planning stages. If it even happens. By the time they figure it all out people will find something else to be offended by.

The latest I heard is that the re-theme will happen at WDW first, then DL. But still no start date for either park.

I wonder why they even bothered to announce it so early. Another project falling victim to the pandemic?

I think it absolutely happens as Disney has kept releasing info about it like the videos with the Imagineers. Now of course, nothing's certain with Bob Paycheck at the helm. I think it's more having the stomach to close down that ride for such an extended period given how busy the parks are right now. I can't think of another long term shutdown of a popular ride. Selfishly, I'm hoping it's still up when we go in June.

Regarding the timing of the announcement, I'd guess it was to get ahead of any potential backlash as that was around the time when social media seemed to be hunting for things to take companies to task for. I bet the retheming may have always been in the cards and there was no better time to talk about it than that moment.
