We have been to the GWL several times in PA; dd is turning 12 and we want to take a mini vacation for her birthday. As much as we love GWL it is very expensive I have heard Splash lagoon is nice as well and it is cheaper and all suites come with a full kitchen! However I am leary of spending $$$ on something that will turn out to be a disappointment. Is it as large as GWL is their as much to do? It looks like their is no wave pool either? What do you think?

Our family has gone to Splash Lagoon many many times. We love it. Have never been to GWL. First there is NO wave pool at Splash. The park has approximately 5-6 large slides. Some are more daring then others but all our fun. There is 3 hot tubs, 2 family 1 adult. There is an interactive water area for babies/toddlers, another for younger children and a pool that has basketball set up for older kids. We enjoy everything in the actual water area. Also there is a lazy river...

About the whole experience..

There are 3 hotels that are actually attached to the water park. This is definetely a must. We have stayed at all three. We prefer the Residence Inn. Comfort Inn rooms are located next to the Thruway and have a higher noise level. This is the cheapest of the hotels but also the loudest. It has a swimming pool and so does the Residence Inn. The Holiday Inn never did it for us.. No extra swimming pool and more of a business person's place. All hotels offer free breakfast.. All very good. Residence Inn has some free dinners during the week. Never had a dirty room...

Back to the Splash.. Upper floor has a great game room that we have spent hours in also if this is your thing. I usually designate $100.00 just for this. There is a gift shop, small bar, and activity rooms. They offer games like bingo, air hockey tournaments etc. You have specific times for these but most are free. If you do the crafts there is usually a small charge.

FOOD... The food inside the park is well, park food and its located in a very wet area. We go to the Boston's outside if we don't want to drive and if you don't mind leaving there is every food place you can think of down Peach Street. Peach Street also has every store you can think of and a mall. Outside of the area is Presque Isle Park (beach).. www.presqueisle.org. Depends on summer or winter visit.

If you have any other questions or want to see pics let me know...

Hope you enjoy your vacation no matter where you go..

Diane

Splash Lagoon is totally different then GWL. GWL is a themed resort. Splash lagoon is an indoor waterpark with hotels attached.

When we visited approximately 3 years ago. The family and I were less then impressed and that was the 1st indoor waterpark we ever visited. it was very crowded and I heard they have added 2 more hotels, to add to the capacity.

Not all rooms come wih kitchens, just certain rooms in certain hotels. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite at the Residence Inn and it was nice, but we have not been back.

Splash lagoon is only 90 minutes from us but we'd rather travel 3 hours to Kalahari in Sandusky or 4 hours to Mason Ohio to their GWL.

GWL in Mason has a wave pool and is quite a bit larger then Splash lagoon, plus both Kalahari and GWL are much cleaner.

Kalahari in Sandusky is making a huge additon to their waterpark, which should now be complete. The place is now I think around 150,000 square feet. We plan to visit there again for DS's birthday in April. Any ?'s feel free to PM me.

I am so cheap i didnt want to spend the money for GWL at like 500.00 for the night...so we found a hotel in Lancaster, with a great water park, not as big, but similar to GWL-- Howard Johnson on Old Linclon Hwy (30) in Lancaster...the water park costs an extra 10.00 pp but the room was like 74.00 for the night...a FAR cheaper route than GWL...and they have 2 waterslides, dump bucket, kiddie pool, hot tub, and huge pool, with basketball in the water, ride ons, etc....
JUST AN FYI:banana:
