Spirit of Aloha

So tell me about Spirit of Aloha....This is the only show we haven't seen but haven't heard to much about it....so tell me is it worth it? It will be 4 of us (2 dds 17 and 14)

Booked this Spring Break 2009...8 of us total. We nicknamed it the Luau of Terror. Food was OK (not worth the price) and the show was just sooooo cheesy. Everyone wanted to leave but nobody would say so plus they bring the food at certain intervals so as to force you to watch if you want to eat. Many on here will gush about how great it is but when I think of all the other places we could have gone for 2TS credits I get a little miffed at myself for booking this.

My 15 year old daughter liked the show, though it did get a bit cheesy, but the food was a bit lacking. (Please note however that nobody in our party had the standard meal there as a result of allergies and not eating meat.)

I will say that we would consider returning to SOA but not the HDD as she absolutely hated that one and I didn't particularly like it either, both the food and the show.

If the girls like tahitian, hula, and fire dancing they will probably like the show.

What in WDW is not "cheesy"? WDW is all about cheese..
We enjoyed it (we did it a few years back), and my DD's demanded we do it again this Thanksgiving.
The food is on par with just about any other restaurant minus the signatures, and the show is fun. Then again I'm the kind of person who can appreciate the time and practice these people do for the show. I'd like to see anybody else juggle fire batons.
Go once and form your own opinion. Most here would say go to ohana instead, but unless meat on a stick is a new high for you, it's no better food wise.

I am not a very picky eater but I find the food at the Luau just "OK"....it's chicken, ribs, and rice...not very exciting...the dessert however is gross - and I LOVE sweets...almost anything sweet....but there is something about those mousse volcanos that gross me out!

The show is moderately cheesy but not in a good cheesy way like HDDR....more of a "get me out of here" cheesy...however the dance sequences as well as the fire dancers - that's just amazing! IMHO this poriton of the show is it's one redeeming quality.

We did the Spirit of Aloha last year, it was me, DH, and DDs 13 and 14. I paid for the good seats. We had GREAT seats, center front row. The show was cheesy but good. The flame thrower was AWESOME. The food was lacking as far as Disney standards I felt but it was still a great time. When you check in for dinner, they hand out leis and take a family picture before taking you over to where the show takes place. We got a GREAT family picture out of it, my favorite pic from that trip.

ANd there I think you have the best advice, go once & form your own opinion! While I can appreciate wanting to hear what others think to help make up your mind, if you read about a restaurant you absolutely love & have a great experince every time, you're still going to see on this board some who do not share your enthusiasm.

So if you're on the fence, it sounds like you do want to see it & want us to talk you into it. So go for it! I too have always wanted to give the luau a try & have finally gotten around to booking it for our next trip.

Me, I enjoyed the cheesiness of the Hoop De Doo so hearing the luau is cheesy is right down my disney alley. Why not I say

I am with you on that....the last time I went to see SoA, was back in the 80's when it was just the Polynesian Luau and back then I loved it (maybe because I was much younger and naive). Therefore for our September trip, DH and I thought this would be something fun to do that we haven't done before with our kids (always looking for new things to do). As for the cheesyness, I agree...it's Disney therefore everything is cheesy, it is a show that is going to entertain us and if we don't like it we won't do it again. I say, go try it once and if you don't like it don't do it again.

The story is cheesy, but the dancing is good.

DH and I really liked the food. In fact, I have made similar things at home since. Our waiter was fun.

I think if you go into it and are looking for things to critique, you won't have a good time. If you go into it, go with the flow, laugh and have a good time, you'll have a good time.

I say Luau!
