:wizard: I was wondering if anyone has been to this recently and would love some feedback. Every year we think about going and the one time we had it booked there was a tropical depression and it was cancelled...is it worth 2 TS?:confused3

When we went, we had great seats, which really made the show better for us. The first part of the show is actually pretty boring. The second half with the flame thrower was really good. The food was pretty decent (the food alone not worth 2TS, though), and we had good service, as well. I also like the atmosphere, the area around the Poly where the show is was really pretty! It's not something I would do every trip, but I'm one that likes to try everything once! I wasn't upset that we used 2TS on it, but if we would have been seated in the back I would have been disappointed.

IMO, SOA is not worth going to at all, which, needless to say, means that IMO it is not worth 2TS credits.

The food is so-so at best. Not awful, but not all that good either. The show is just boring and dull.

If you look at the dinner show as 1TS credit for the food and 1TS credit for the show, I guess you can say that it deserves the TS credit for the food, but the show does not deserve a TS credit. If TS credits are worth roughly $30+ each, think of it as if you would pay $30 per person to watch a bad show. I personally wouldn't.

I haven't been to the SOA since I was a kid, I think the last time I went it was just called Polynesian Luau. With that said, we have ADRs for a show one night in September. My DH and I are trying to do some things that are different and we know the girls will love the hula dancing/flame throwing. It is expensive but I say, do it once and if you don't like it don't do it again. Just hoping it doesn't get rained out.

We went to SoA twice. IMO - the first time we went, we loved it - we had good seats and the food was good as well as the show - corny but good - my DS and DH loved the ribs. My DH loved the all you care to drink beer as well. The second time we went it was the same - DH and DS with his friend loved the ribs. The show was good but we probably won't go back for quite a while. I am glad we did see it. I think it was worth the 2TS credits but we will be trying something new next time.:yay:

We went a few years ago and it was good, but not great. Fun for children who have never seen a luau. The food wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either. There is unlimited beer and wine. The beer tasted watery too me. The flame thrower was very good but you can see this for free if you catch the torch lighting ceremony, or Festival of the Lion King. Personally, I won't go again..at least not until a take a grandchild (which is hopefully 7+ yrs away). The food at Ohana is much better, and there is also entertainment. But its worth doing at least once.

I guess I'm going against the grain here because we went last August and had a great time. We used our dining plan and our seats weren't the most fantastic but they were right up front and not too far to the left. The storyline is a bit corny but the dancing and fire twirling were both great. They even have people from the audience come up and join in for a dance or two.

We thought the food was good. We didn't care too terribly much for the rice but we are from Louisiana where our rice is covered in gravy. The waiter was very attentive and didn't have any problem at all bringing out two hot dogs for our picky eater son. We didn't even have to ask for more bread or pineapple, our waiter noticed we had almost eaten it all and brought out more.

If I am remembering correctly, the show lasted between an hour and a half to two hours. I can't remember exactly.

We liked it enough that we booked again for our upcoming May trip.

Forgot to add that I have a few pics in my "Stop Making Me Laugh" trip report, if you want to take a look around.

We just did SOA on March 18th and it was okay. The salad and pineapple bread they served at the beginning was delicious. We also really liked the ribs. The chicken was okay (legs only so you have to like dark meat) and the rice and veggies were very bland. The dessert was just okay. I wish they had better options for the children to choose from. My boys ate the dinner and mostly filled up on pineapple, bread and chicken. Our server was good and the show wasn't that bad. The first section, as the PP mentioned, was quite corny and a bit dull. Th second part with the traditional dancers and the fire dancer was much better.

My husband had always wanted to go so we decided to try it out. I don't think we would choose to do it again but it was good to try. BTW, we paid OOP for it ~$228 for the 5 of us. The one thing that does bother me is the picture they take at the beginning of the show. I feel that is the biggest rip off on Disney property. You are already paying a premium price, why not just include the picture. We declined to have our picture done and had a very dirty look from the photographers. They should at least be gracious about people declining. OK, rant over!

Hope you have a good experience if you decide to try it out!

I think we had the 5:15 seating and were done by 7:30ish - that included getting in to sit in our seats, our dinner and the show.

::yes::::yes::::yes:: We were there in early Feb. on the DxDP and I still wasn't sure if I should book it. We hadn't been there in 8 yrs. and decided to try again. Food was just ok. Should have booked Artiste Pointe or Narcoossee's instead!

We will be trying this show for the first in August and have read all the mixed reviews. We have free dining so I figured this would be a good time to do it. I would probably never pay for it OOP. Is the tip included in the price or should I plan a gratuity for this into my budget? :goodvibes

Thanks

Tip is included! We have this booked for Dec and I keep going back and forth on it. Not sure if we want to do this or Narcoossees

SoA is just a so-so experience, IMO.

The food is about a "C+" and the show... well...

If you have young children in your party and your view is a good one, they may enjoy it. Adults often find it a bit "dumbed down".

Most folks go to a luau show to see dancing and fire twirling. And while there is some of that, it's padded with LOTS of talking and bad acting about this little girl who wants to go home, or something - goodness knows we didn't care and neither did the folks around us.

You'd be much better off at Hoop de DO... Or, any other signature restaurant that appeals to you...
