It has been a while since we've flown with Spirit. I was reviewing the website and noticed that Spirit still claims that Bic lighters are not permitted under TSA rules. In reviewing TSA rules, I found they were permitted in carry-on.

We have not had an issue with bringing lighters in carry-on when flying Delta or Northwest on the past several visits. Is this simply a case of Spirit's failure to update its website OR are lighters simply not permitted by Spirit? I guess my confusion lies in Spirit's claim that it utilizes the TSA prohibited list, but also states that lighters are prohibited by TSA. :confused3

We're flying out of DTW if it matters.

Spirit is probably using an out-of-date list. (There was a time when lighters were not allowed, IIRC.) Go by TSA, they are the ones who check your carry-on belongings. Spirit's employees are just there to get you onto the plane.

Thanks Brian, that's what I thought as well. Thankfully, we're flying with Spirit before the new "carry-on" rules/fees. :sad2: That could create a whole new dilemma.
