Spirit Airlines...*rant*

It may be Spirit's policy, but I do not agree with it (in regards to the terms that the agent told me), disliked the customer lack-of-service, and will not be flying them again. We had never traveled with this carrier before, so LESSON LEARNED!

Spirit isn't known for great customer service. A couple of airlines no longer outsource CSR to India.

An airline that charges for assigned seats can't fairly waive that charge for some passengers. What percentage of passengers on a flight to MCO fly with a child? Do you think it's fair to waive assigned seat charges for half the passengers?

I don't think you're being honest with us. You thought you could talk Spirit into waiving the seat charge. You were not only told NO but your request to speak to a supervisor was refused. It's certainly possible the foreign CSR, reading a script, could have been "nicer" but it's probable you wouldn't have been satisfied with any response that didn't include waiving the charge.

Spirit expects passengers that want to sit together will pay the fee. I'd certainly hope most parents with young children are in that category.

edited to add You started the thread looking to rant. Most of us think it would be unfair if Spirit exempted some passengers from the charge. I'd be "ranting" if half the plane got the fee waived but I had to pay for my seat. SW moved family boarding from pre-boarding to mid-boarding (between the A and B group) because many other passengers thought the old arrangement was unfair.

You can think I am not being honest. If it was an issue of not at all buying a seat then I wouldn't have...then you could have told me I was irresponsible for leaving my child (at any age) unattended. This is what I wanted clarification about...the agent told me that Spirit would not book a one way ticket for my 3 yo without being accompanied, but then said they were fine with separating said child from the accompanying adult on the plane if a seat was not purchased next to the adult. To me that is no differenmt then the child traveling on an unaccompanied ticket. People learn from asking questions (at least I do). I did not understand what the agent said or the contradiction (as I saw it) and asked to speak to a supervisor in hopes of it being explained clearer.

My rant (which you didn't have to read or respond to) did not have to do with the money coming out of my pocket for the ticket/seat/baggage (all purchased)...it is a policy that I don't understand and the lousy customer service I felt I received.
