I recieved a credit for a future flight from Spirit. However, Spirit dropped our original flight, booked us on a different flight, and then added the original flight back again. I had to ask them to put us back on the original flight. The fare had gone down and they credited us the difference after I asked. Most airlines have a change fee that they will charge you to rebook a flight. They will charge you the fee and then credit you the difference. So if your flight goes down by more than the change fee then it makes sense to rebook, but you will still be charged a fee. Does that make sense?
We leave in 13 days (woot!) and believe it or not, our airfare went down. We called and spoke to a manager and he was nice enough to credit us for the difference. So I don't know. Maybe it depends on who you talk to and how nice they are.
