I know this isnt a chat room about airlines, but since everyone is so helpful at answering my disney resort questions, I thought this might be the right place.

I will be traveling to Disney POR on Jan 23 and returning on Jan 27. I found the best airfare from Spirit Air. Has anyone flown this airline? What is it like? I have flown Southwest before, and hated it, and I said I would never fly that again. I have never heard anything about Spirit?? Has anyone ever flown it that can give me a review.

If it is anything like Southwest, I will pay the extra to fly Jetblue or Song Air.

Thanks Kristy

We fly Spirit all the time out of Detroit.

Since I am not an expert at airlines what do you want to know about it.

Spirit always gets us where we want to go relatively easily and painlessly, and usually on time.

If you want to know specifics maybe I can answer them.

If you hated SWA then you will not like Spirit either. They are very similar to me.

We have flown Spirit out of Detroit many times. It is great! They are always on time, and much easier to fly than Northwest. We have never had a problem.

Hi. I've flown Southwest once (thankfully short trip to Chicago) and have flown Spirit many times now. I prefer Spirit over Southwest and even prefer it over Northwest (out of Detroit here). I'm booked on NW next month and not looking forward to it. My last NW experience was a time change on my flight home resulting in losing a lot of time at Disney. Though NW was nice at that time and did change me to the next day I really don't prefer them anymore.

Spirit does not do advance seating, it is down at check-in. I always arrive early and have never had any troubles. No damage to baggage. I usually only do a backpack for a carry-on so never any trouble there. The staff has always been friendly and helpful.

Another reason I support them is when my Grandfather passed away my parents were booked on NW I was flying on Spirit down to Disney the next day. We obivously had to cancel our Disney plans. NW would NOT waive their penalty fee, Spirit did it without a problem. Waived my fee and no hassle. I had been a travel agent years back and told my parents to take a copy of the death cert. to the local Ticketing office and they were still denied. I'm still rather annoyed with them and am only traveling them because I was out numbered by my party and I wasn't the one driving the group to the airport.

Anyways...another point and it's a biggie for me...

Last I checked Spirit allowed 70 lbs per bag NW only allows 50 lbs.
My rolling duffle eats into that allowed 50 real quick and now for this trip instead of my 1 bag I'm going with 2 grrrr. And it's not like my duffle actually hits the 70 lbs it's just that I don't want the hassle of NW hitting me up for $25.00 each way because my bag might weigh in at 51 lbs.

Probably more then you wanted but I have had such excellent luck with Spirit and have even flown their Spirit Plus on my recent trips with them and enjoyed that too.

FYI -- if you book on-line, Spirit will let you select your seats 90-days before your trip (same as Northwest). It might be something new, although I have never had trouble getting seats together.

My DH and I flew them last week to Fort Lauderdale from Atlantic City and except for the dismal, dirty planes I give them a thumbs up. Their customer service is above average.
First I accidently booked the wrong time and when I called they changed it no charge. Then the day before we left I noticed I had only booked 1 ADULT! When I called again they added me on at slightly lower than current fares (AND IN FIRST CLASS!!):teeth:
Just avoid using the bathrooms.:faint: ;)

Both of my Brothers in Law have used Spirit with in the last couple of weeks and according to them the flights were fine. My one BIL came home last night from Ft. Lauderdale and his flight was delayed almost three hours due to "Air Traffic Control" but I suppose that could happen to anyone. As someone else mentioned too, Spirit does allow for 70lbs of luggage per peice currently.
