I keep getting these emails about $8 air fare on Spririt Air... so I decided to buy some tickets for my in-laws to go down to their condo in Myrtle Beach. They will be flying from Atlantic City to Myrtle Beach. I don't have any experience at either airport, or with Spirit Air, any comments?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Spirit is great. I've been flying them since 1995, even before I lived near Atlantic City. They're one of the few airlines that actually makes a profit every year, so no worries about bankruptcy or stuff like that. As of last year or so they have a brand new fleet of planes, so I guess that's pretty good for safety.

Atlantic City International (:rotfl: :rotfl: ) Airport, ACY, is a great place. Parking is so close you can walk from your car to the terminal; inexpensive, too ... the last time I was there I think the charge was $4.25 a day. The terminal only has 6 gates, so you can't really get lost. Security is usually very quick to get through, even during crowded times. Spirit is the dominant carrier there. In fact, the only airlines are Spirit and Delta, and the Delta service is very limited, only Atlanta and Cincinnati I believe.

But the airport is about 11 miles from Atlantic City, so it's not like there's a casino next door. And unlike McCarran in Las Vegas, there are no slot machines in the terminal.

Atlantic City now charges $6 per day for long term parking. When you return, you pay for your parking at an in-terminal machine, have your ticket validated, and off you go.
Spirit is no-frills. You pay $10 per checked bag, $5 per bag if you pre-pay via the internet. They charge for soda, $1 per can, and for snacks.
We like Spirit and will fly from ACY to Orlando when the price is right.
One observation at Orlando, they charge $2 per bag for curb side check in, in additon to the $5 or $10 per bag... so if you are unaware, you will pay $12 each to check your bags. Most of this information is on their website.

We fly Spirit from Atlanta to Orlando when the price is less than $150 r/t, flying this Sunday for the 3rd time this year. We have had no problems with them at all, no frills but our flight is just a little over an hour anyway. The new checked luggage policy went into effect in June, $10 r/t for the first two checked bags if you prepay online, $20 if pay at the airport. Each passenger gets one carry-on for free. This trip, I am traveling with just my son, so we will check one suitcase and take a carry-on, therefore only costing us $10 since I went ahead and paid online. You can prepay up until the day of departure in case you are unsure as to how many bags you will need. Spirit does have limited flights, but the early a.m. and late evening flights work out great for us, we get extra park time without having to pay for extra hotel nights.

We fly Spirit from Atlanta to Orlando

We are flying Spirit from Atlanta to Orlando tomorrow! Driving to Atlanta this afternoon. Our plane lands in Orlando at 8:00 AM tomorrow, so we get almost a whole park day.

I'm so happy to read that no one has any big problems with Spirit :goodvibes and it sounds like the AC airport might not be so bad after all.

I bought these tickets for my in-laws 40th anniversary so I'm hoping they will go down to AC the night before and stay at a casino and then drive to the airport in the morning.

Do you think they really need to allow that 2 hours before a flight at AC?

Probably not. I live 15 minutes from there and I think I leave my house about 1 hr. 45 mins. before flights.

Now for THAT they'll want to allow ample time. Depending on where they stay, it could take them 15 minutes just to get from their room to the car. And then another few minutes winding their way out of the parking garage. And then another 5 minutes of driving to get through city traffic to the foot of the AC Expressway. And then another 15 minutes to get to the airport. And then time to find a parking spot and walk from there to the terminal, etc.

Thanks for the info!

They are casino regulars and they usually stay at Harrah's, not on the strip. I don't think they like all that excitement or somethng :confused3

Leaving from the casino in AC has to be a shorter trip than Morris County :goodvibes

Exactly!! We are on that same early flight on Sunday, departs Atl at 6:30 a.m. and arrives MCO at 8:00. You'll be at your resort by 9:00. We stayed at CSR in May, we love it there. Giving POR a try this time, wanted to try something different. Have a great vacation!

Wanted to fly Spirit but got a better deal flying out of Philly with SW. If we can catch a cheap flight out of AC airport with Spirit, we will gladly bank our credits with SW for another trip and fly out. We live nearby (about 5 minutes) and could easily either use airport transportation or have friends drive. AC airport is convenient and small. The gates and baggage claim are so close so that you are not lugging luggage :thumbsup2 . Your in-laws will be pleased :thumbsup2
