Many people I know also pronounce it "Chi-polt-ay" and it drives me nutso. I try to say it correctly around them to see if it catches on but it doesn't.
Same here. It's a lot like the first option given in the poll, but the "i" isn't really a short i. Mine is somewhere between a long e and a short i. Closer to a long e if I had to pick.

My DH has a co-worker who is an immigrant from Kazakhstan. He originally pronounced it chi-pottle (rhymes with bottle) so now it's turned into a joke among his co-workers, and so that's what we say at home. In other contexts we pronounce it the correct way, Chi-pote-lay
