They don't mean sharing the meal. They mean one room used their DxDP credits to pay for people on another room reservation. They are sharing the DxDP credits between two rooms.

So everyone on this thread is talking about Disney Deluxe dining plan?
One room has the Deluxe plan and the other room doesn't?

We have 2 Deluxe rooms at the YC...we were not able to get the free dining added but got the Fall up to 20% discount. I did see to upgrade to waterview we could get free dining, but it is quite a bit more....would it be worth us to upgrade one room with free dining and leave the other room with no dining and we could go to:
Storybook at Artist Point, Crystal Palace, ROL Tusker House, 1900 Park Fare, Askeshus Royal plus Counter Services? We have two rooms of 5 - 2 adults in each (my husband and I and my parents always share one meal at restaurants) the kids are 16g, 15g, 12b, 10g, 9b, 6b. The only one who probably eats the most is the 16 girl unless its pizza and then they have ravenous appetites!

Sorry I am just trying to understand all this! My parents don't want free dining because they always share and would rather order what they want, but have said do what you want because you have more mouths to feed.

What would you all suggest? We are going 11/18-11/24/19

Bolding to point out that none of the TS restaurants you listed allow people to share a meal, they're all buffets/AYCE/fixed price meals, so you pay for each person regardless of what they eat. You can use credits to pay for both rooms, but everyone in attendance will be paid for.

If you want to run the numbers, this is what you'll need to do.

(1) Put the 2 youngest children in the Room 1 with the DxDDP. The price for them is $44 each.
(2) Put 2 adults and one extra child in Room 1 with the DxDDP. Anyone over 9 is considered an "adult" for the DDP. The price for them is $116 each.
(3) Your cost for the DxDDP in Room 1 is $ 436 per day. That will get you 5 refillable mugs, 15 credits to share per day between Room 1 and Room 2 and 10 snacks per day. PLUS, you get a free alcoholic drink for the adults.
(4) All credits on the DELUXE DDP are considered the same. You can use them for adults or children. You can use them for table service or counter service. You may use your credits for counter service, but there is not as much value as if you use them for table service.
(5) I calculate that you would pay approximately $26 per credit (which includes taxes, but not tip). Snacks are valued at about $4 each. $436 - $40 (10 snacks) = $396. Divide $396 by 15 meals and you get $396/15 = $26.40. So, you'd be paying that much per credit but you can use them at restaurants that charge a lot more for meals.

You will have to price out the water view to see if it makes sense to book it with "free dining" and then up grade to the DxDDP.
(1) The value of the "free dining" on a water view room is $75 per adult and $28 per child, or $281 per day on Room 1. If the additional price of a water view is less than $281 then it makes sense to book the water view with "free dining" and upgrade to the DxDDP.
(2) The price to upgrade from the "free" DDP in the water view room to the DxDDP in Room 1 is about $153 per day.
(3) It may be worth upgrading both rooms (Room 1 and Room 2) to the water view. The value of the regular DDP is $75 per "Disney Adult" or $375 per day for Room 2. You would then have 5 extra mugs plus 5 counter service meals, 5 table service meals and 10 more snacks per day.
(4) Leave Room 2 as the regular "free" DDP and upgrade only Room 1 to the DxDDP. You will get a total of 10 refillable mugs plus 20 table service meals, 5 counter service meals and 20 snacks per day for the cost to upgrade to the water view rooms plus $153 per day to upgrade Room 1 to the DxDDP.

As yet another follow up...I sent an email yesterday from 3 different email addresses asking the same question about sharing our credits with people not on the dining plan. After the conflicting answers over the phone I was hoping to get something back to at least one of those emails that I could print off to take with us just in case. Instead, someone called me today. She said it is totally fine to purchase meals for whoever I choose with my dining credits. She also said that doesn't mean some of the restaurants might not question it because some of them are independently owned, but that I should very clearly tell them how many meals I would like to pay for with my plan at the beginning and ask for a supervisor if necessary. She specifically said that while they are "non-transferrable", they may be used to cover the meals of others if I so choose. So the weird part...I asked her if she could possibly send me an email basically stating what she just told me so I would have it in case of any issues. She point blank told me no, that she cannot do that because the credits are non-transferrable and it could be misconstrued through email, but that the reason for the phone call was to assure me that we would be ok to go ahead with our plans as they are (in my email I had stated that if we can't do it this way we will need to drop the deluxe plan.)

So, I guess after them making it a point to call and tell me that, we'll be sticking with it...even if the fact that she wouldn't send an email seems kind of sketchy.

Edited ... maybe you can start a new thread with your questions? I think this thread is specifically for people to report their use of the DxDDP when they get home. I don't think it's for general DDP questions.

Curious how you did Yachtsman Steakhouse? I was thinking of doing that with my parents...my parents split a meal back home and so do we...I was wondering if maybe we just did one meal on the meal plan for 2 credits...I know that sounds weird, but after a while I get tired of eating and the restaurant looks really nice and we are staying at the YC...it just looked real nice to have a quiet evening talking over a light dinner there!! Do you think that is terrible? With deluxe that is way too big! I can already picture my mom calling the dessert and eating that for her supper...I would call the appetizer!

But I am a bit confused...did it say you don't get an appetizer at the Yachtsman Steakhouse?

Market at Ale and Compass has specialty coffee drinks, assorted breakfast items, yogurts, snack mixes, beef jerky all for snack credits in addition to cupcakes, etc. There were also a few items in the cooler, but I don’t remember exactly what they were. I think my son got a cheese tray/tomato mozzarella salad thing and maybe even a small shrimp cocktail.

There are lots of savory snacks at quick service restaurants and carts that can be mixed and matched for a hearty snack, and yes cheese pretzels and the like are available. I know there are usually threads running in dining board about what is available as a snack credit. You can not use snack credits at table service.

Snack credits cannot be used at table service restaurants. You can trade 1 quick service credit for 3 snacks but they must be done in a single transaction.

We find most snacks are shareable. We are 2 adults and a Disney adult (age 10 and older). You can order anything from cupcakes to candy apples and everything in between. If you'd like to share, ask a cast member and they will be able to cut and divide anything you would like. I'm going to suggest that you go to allears.net menues. They try to keep up to date on the prices as well as changes to the menu.

Also, when at Disney all snack items that are eligible on the dining plan will have a purple and white icon next to them on the menu.

Our favorite snack to share is from Epic Center (formerly Oasis Canteen), in HS. It is a funnel cake with strawberry topping (they also have a cookies and cream one). We share 3 ways and still have left overs.

may I also suggest you purchase a refillable popcorn bucket (currently $10- out of pocket) cannot use a snack credit. Refills are approximately $2 each. This bucket is good for length of stay and at all 4 theme parks (not sure if water parks or Disney Springs - never tried). If using dining plan, refills count as a snack. However, not a good use of a snack credit, we just pay out of pocket.

We share everything from ice cream to Dole Whips. Grab extra spoons and napkins and enjoy!!
