Do you open the door or not? I admit, I would be way too scared to. I would probably just grab the phone and hide or maybe peek out. My door is made of glass mostly though so that's why I would be hesitant to pass by. Maybe I'm just irrational.

What would you do?

That would depend entirely on whether I was alone or not. If I was alone - heck no! If my husband was home, I'd send him to, but I wouldn't. :teeth:

Unless it were a close friend/relative or neighbor...um, no.

I can see them without them seeing me, so I would check first. Someone I didn't know, yeah no way (especially if DH wasn't home)

I once moved into a house that used to be a drug house. So i did get knock on door.at crazy hours. I also had a big dog ,weapon. Peep hole and say there is no one here you know.

That actually happened to us once. My husband went to see who it was and it was a sheriff! He wanted to let us know we'd left our garage door open and we should close it. Scared me half to death! :lmao:

We have cameras so we always know who is at the door, or doors. :thumbsup2

I did open the door once at around 2:30 am. It was a really sexy fireman....

...who was checking on a report of a fire two apartments over from us. It was a small fire and he was just checking for smoke since we a shared a common vent.

had someone knock on my door at 5am. my roommate and I went to check it out and have no idea who it was, even look up and down the street...

I installed cameras afterwards... just need to push a power button to see who is at my front door...

I used to live above a doctors office. It got broken into several times(for drugs)

One night a guy is banging on the door. A big guy. So I call the police, who we got to know a little too well. They asked "is he a fat bald guy?"

"yes"

" oh don't worry he's just another escapee from the mental hospital"

"um can you you still come pick him up?"

I'd at least peak out the window to make sure it wasn't a neighbor who was in need of help. If I didn't know them I wouldn't open it.

I would go to the door without opening it, and ask who it was... or open the window in the living room and ask.

I wouldn't ignore it; it might very well be a neighbor in a crisis. But I wouldn't just open the door at that hour of the night either.

I would peak out as others said, it could be an emergency. Grab the phone & hide? No

I'd send DH to the door.

He's a big guy.

;)

If I were home alone, I'd head to the door (it's mostly glass), but I'd make sure to take my dog (who barks ferociously, but will roll over and let anyone rub her belly), phone and my gun. I wouldn't open it, but I'd talk to them through the door.

If DH was home, he would go to the door and see who it was.

If I'm home alone I would grab one of DH's guns before I went to see who it was. The house is locked, so if it was one of our kids/grandkids they wouldn't be able to get in, so I would be concerned that it might be one of them. If it was a stranger I would turn the porch light on and holler through the door to find out what they wanted. If they had car problems or something, I would call someone for them but I wouldn't let them in.

same here..I cannot imagine ignoring a knock in the middle of the night for fear it was a true emergency

If someone rings our doorbell at 1am my dogs would be losing it. I would look through our window to see who it is.

If the dogs barking did not run them off, I would open the window and ask what they need.

I would not open the door unless it was someone I knew.

If it was someone in trouble, I would offer to call the police.

I would not ignore it but I would not put myself in harm's way either.

This actually happened to us a couple of months ago. Doorbell rang at 1:00 AM. DH went down to see who it was (we have a window that looks onto the front porch). It was a neighbor whose wife was sick and needed to go to the hospital. They have two young children, so the neighbor asked if one of us would go and sleep on their couch so that they didn't have to wake the kids and bring them to the hospital with them.

I could never ignore the doorbell since it could very well be a neighbor in need. I would look out the window and see who it is, but I wouldn't open the door to a stranger in the middle of the night.
