i was going to write this on the other thread, but thought it would get more exposure here...
this is what i do with my xyron 150...
when using sizzlets (although i have yet to actually use them on a scrapbook page) or qk, i take a strip of paper about an inch or so wide and feed it through the 150. i peel off the top paper then cut the letters i need. i just peel them from the paper and bingo...no gloobers.
and to prevent waste of the adhesive, i don't even use the x or the leeza gibbons xyron machines. i just use the cartridge. i just insert the item into where it would go and pull from the other side. after the item is through the cartridge, i cut it off right after the item. it saves about an inch of adhesive each time you use it.
i do however still use the machine to protect the cartridges when traveling.
