Spinoff Nerf Guns and Barbies????

Because I disliked them.

Actually it was guns in general. Nerf, water, "toy" in general. No guns or other weapons.

But that doesnt explain why, which is why I started this thread. I am generally curious why you would ban them and dislike them so much?

As for the barbie...I just never liked them, even growing up as a kid. I would torcher my sister by swapping Ken & Barbies heads. Not to mention, as a parent, I don't think it is a very positive image for young girls. No women could ever "measure - up" to barbie. I didn't throw away the ones the paternal grandparents or class mates might get them, I just never bought them for them. My oldest prefered skydancers and the younger one her Tonka RC dump truck and puzzles, blocks, legos etc.

As for guns/weapons. There is too much violence already, no need to buy toys that encourage it.

Of course not. A woman would have to be 7 ft tall and have a 25" waist.

Not trying to change anyone's mind, but this thread makes me laugh. With my first child, I knew it all and was so particular about everything. As she grew older, I said she would never have a Bratz doll - it didn't take too long - thankfully I remembered some of my favorite dolls as a kid and realized playing with these ridiculously unrealistic dolls would not ruin her (and it didn't :goodvibes).

With my first son, it was the gun issue. Finally, it was, "OK sweetie, you can have a gun, just don't point it at people." Well, what's the fun in that :lmao:? It didn't take long to relax that one either. When they were younger, I took my kids to Gettysburg on an occasional weekday (we homeschool), so they could shoot at each other around the cool rocks and through the weeds. One day we were shopping in Gettysburg and overheard a Mom tell her son he couldn't buy a toy gun in Gettysburg. "Why would you want a gun? Why don't you buy one of these little figures?" Yeah right. Bring a boy to Gettysburg and don't let him have an old timey pistol. My kids thought I was the best Mom ever that day :goodvibes.

Guns are not going to make your child violent and barbie dolls won't make them immodest. I think they're in more danger of turning out "bad" from watching Disney channel shows - ugh. I still haven't relaxed that rule!

We tried to keep our kids away from guns and Barbie, but it didn't work out well.

Most of our friends and family knew we didn't want those toys in the house, but the occasional school friend would buy one as a birthday gift. We were able to avoid Bratz dolls, and the only gun I think that ever showed up was a NERF gun.

As for why, we felt Barbie gave an unreal expectation of a woman's figure. As for guns, we always tried to teach our children about love and peace, not violence. Our son did have one NERF gun, and we didn't really have a problem with it. I mean, it was foam darts with suction cups on it. And we let him get a NERF bow and arrow eventually.

We are pretty strict on video games, too. I have Call of Duty, but only play it when the kids aren't in the same room.
