Reading the Jack/Jak thread (BTW, I didn't vote but I prefer Jack :cheer2: ) I got to thinking of my SIL who named her baby Kendyl. I like the name Kendall but Kendyl makes me think of Benadryl??!!? Don't ask me why :confused3
Anyone else care to contribute a name they that made them go "huh?"
BTW, I spell my name Jenifer, and while it's a more common spelling of late, it's not the traditional way, so I'm not excempt from potential bashing....although it's better than Jennyfur huh? :rotfl2:

Jeni

DSis named her DD now 16 Kyrstyne (pronounced Kirsten). That poor girl will go the rest of her life spelling her name

Mine is for some reason impossible to pronounce the way its spelled. Jollyn (pronounced jo-lynn)... I think maybe 5 people have ever gotten it right the first time. I love my name, just not the spelling of it. Though I guess since mine isn't exactly a common name my parents didn't really butcher any normal spelling of it.

Oh that's bad. I was reading it as "Christine".

I know a little girl named Kaite. Pronounced Katie. I saw her name on a nametag before I was introduced and I just wasn't sure what to say. I would never have guessed it was supposed to be "Katie".

There is a family here with 4 girls: Caitlynne, Teighynne, Maisynne & Bevynne. They wanted unique - I think they got it! There mom wanted to honor the dad's Irish heritage.

My name is Stacy, yet, everyone wants to put that E in there.. When I was young I would tell people my name is Stacy E not included..

I can relate with my name -
it's Lynn - 2 n's NOOO E!!! I despise it when some one adds an E to the end!

Mine is I not Y. However, I am guilty. I named my youngest ALEKS, not ALEX.

Ok, well my name is Megan (the most simple spelling and pronunciation of the name) and yet I get called Meegan, Mey-ghan, etc. My dd's are Caelin (Kay-lyn) ....no one has screwed that up yet...
and DD#2 is Maeve....at the ped's office the pronounced it "mah-eve." I almost didn't answer when they were asking for "mah-eve's" parents.
I didn't alter the Irish spelling or anything. There are plenty of people out there with this name and spelling and yet the girl said, "Mah-eve"....so now at the young age of 10 weeks she's known as "mah- eve"
I understand that Maeve isn't a common name but at least they could ask how to pronounce "may-ve- rhyming with cave....(thanks Beth76...I was just trying to think of how to pronounce it!!!)

My daughters name is Maeghan (may-ghan). I spelled it that way to get the may since Mae is a name all itself but nobody calls her that. I even have told her teacher and wrote it out for her but they still say meh-ghan.

Holly (and no I wasn't born in december....everyones favorite question here)

Wow! I started a 9 page thread (me, the thread killer) and inspired a spin off in one day! I rule! I personally think a name is a name given to a person by their parents, so it has a special meaning to them and therefore there is no correct/incorrect way to say/spell it. This doesn't mean that I'm gonna like it though... :earboy2:

Now my DD's name is Stacey and everybody wants to leave out the E. :)

It happens with common names too. My name is Kathy (for Kathleen) and people always spell it Cathy.

My name is Tammy. You'd think that was pretty easy right? Apparently not. My grandmother died when I was 30. She always spelled it Tammie. I get Tammi, Tami and every other possible way. My proper name is Tamera. NOT Tamara. It rhymes with camera, just the way it's spelled. I'm constantly called Tum-air-a. When's the last time you took a picture with a cam-air-a???

I've never heard or seen that name before. I probably would have pronounced it "Mayve", rhyming with cave. I never would have thought it would be May-vuh. Sorry.

My 11yo Niece is Krystyna.

My 6yo is Cassandra.. I get asked.. is that with a K???

My son and hubby's name was a typo. Hubby was sappsoed to be Alberto. When his birth certificate was typed it was done as Alverto (see the v next to the b on the keyboard :confused3 ). I dont know why his mom didnt correct it. Maybe becasue be was the last of 7 kid :earseek:

So since our son is a junior he got the typo passed down.

Oh and I almost forgot.. when I was in the hospital after having William.. when asked by one of the nurses what we named him.. she asked did you spell it the traditional or a weird way?. hmm how many ways is there to spell William?

actually Beth76, you're right!!!

I have to change how I tell people to pronounce it!!! :rotfl2:

It is mayve...pronounced like "cave"...thanks for pointing that out.
i'm a dumb mommy
I try sooooooooooooooooooooooooo hard to have people pronounce it correctly that I screw it up. Thanks for pointing out how easy it is to have them say it correctly!!!

My name is Lisabeth not Elisabeth. It is pronounced Lees-bet, not Lisa Beth and is one word!

Well, my name is Tasha and people either pronounce it like Tasha (the "ash" part pronounced like ash as in ashtray) or if I pronounce it they usually spell it wrong-Tosha. One person even spelled it Tatshia. I never knew it was that confusing until I started Jr. High! :confused3

My mom's name is Myra and I think that is fairly simple but most people pronounce that wrong too.
