Did you have a favorite teacher or teacher that helped inspire you?

I've had several, but there were a few that stuck in my mind. 1 teacher I had in 2nd grade actually retired this year. I adored that woman.

My high school Chorus teacher, who is now the musical leader?-not sure of that' s the right title, of the school system DD is in and oversees the musical departments for the system.

8th grade English teacher, she was fun and myself and 3 friends were kind of her favorites.

My 2 childcare teachers, they were supportive of everyone in the class. my 12th grade childcare teacher was also my government teacher and we had a field trip to D.C. that was the best field trip ever. she was also very supportive of all of us.

I have had many teachers that I have loved and a special few that I still keep in touch with.

My 4th Grade Teacher was amazing, such a loving person and I learned so much from her. I had a real tough time with Math and she tutored me on her own time afterschool and sometimes even on Saturdays.

When I attended her wedding as an adult I was just so happy for her to find love because she always had so much of it. She would fight for the kids that were "bad" she knew they could do better.

When I went to highschool in another town, I was very nervous it was a huge school. I got involved with the Chorus and the Drama Department and well again just loved both teachers a little unconventional but I learned so much.

My business teachers though have really taught me the most and I still use many things they taught me today in my career. Things my one teacher used to say just stuck with me and I always remember them.

How to answer a phone, how to take a message. I know they are very little things but time and time again for 17 years now I still get very nice compliments from complete strangers on how professional or friendly I am on the phone and that means alot. Thanks to my teachers!

I had two teachers that really stand out.
The first was my 5th grade teacher. First male teacher I ever had and everyone talked about how tough he was. I was so upset when I found out I was in his class, but it turned out to be the best year ever. We did so many great activities and I can honestly say I believe I learned more that year than any other.

My high school Italian teacher was the other one. She was so energetic and made learning so much fun. Every class was a show. (She was married to my drama teacher, so that could've helped a bit). I had her for 3 years and I was so sad to have to say goodbye Senior year.

My favorite was my high school Algebra teacher. Funny thing is, she never knew me or really talked to me. I just quietly sat in class. But she was young and super cool, so different from the rest of the teachers. Just a really interesting and fascinating person. And class was fun, too! She was basically the only female role model I had, which I desperately needed. I loved that class, it was the highlight of days in high school. :)

25 years later, I have a happy footnote to this story - as an adult I am friends with her younger sister, who is closer to my age and we work together in a volunteer activity. Very cool connection that I never expected to have. :)

I had a few who were outstanding but my most favorite was Mrs. Carolyn Orr. She would read to us from a series of books about a character named 'Marcus Arelius Fortunadis Tidd'. I actually found one of the books on Ebay once and bought it. i tried to read it but it wasn't the same. This kid had a group of friends and they had all kinds of adventures, set in the 30's and 40's I think. Marcus stutterred and she did a wonderful stutter. We all worked very hard to complete our work so she would read and i think she had the very best behaved 5th grade classes ever.

I had two special teachers in high school, and I'm privileged to have been teaching with them at my alma mater for the last 10 years.

I hope that everybody who's commented on this thread has taken the time to tell your special teachers how much they meant to you. I teach English, speech, drama and journalism at a very small rural school. Journalism is by far my favorite thing to teach, and I have some kids that will always be special to me, no matter how long it's been since they were in my program.

I got a wonderful message the other day on Facebook from the mother of one of those students:

I don't think I've ever taken the time to tell you what an inspiration you were and continue to be to Haley and how much help you were to both of us during the difficult high school years. I might be giving her the same advice but it never had the impact it had coming from you. I'm very proud she looks up to someone like you.

I was in tears when I read it. Her daughter graduated three years ago, so I don't know why she wrote this to me now. That day her daughter started an internship with the state attorney general, so I guess that may have made her think about me for some reason.
