spinoff from fireworks thread. Tripod question?

I am thinking too that you could hang your bag from the hook under the tripod. This would also lower the setups center of gravity making it more resistant to small foot bumps (taps, not someone tripping over it).

Like the others who have posted, I don't have a hook on the tripod I use now (have one on my old one). Perhaps putting the camera bag under the tripod will at least reserve the space beneath as "photographic zone" as opposed to an invitation for mini butts ;)

I doubt it.

After reading William's story, I'm thinking a bottle of water might accidentally get spilled under my tripod next time I set it up in a park for fireworks. Who wants to sit in that?

Last time I setup in the hub, I should have remembered to bring a bottle of water. There was no cocktail service and I was getting very thirsty.

I do like the idea of cooling down the asphalt with a little water (or acid) to dissuade parents from plopping their kids under my tripod.

Something else - I'd like to get some lights to put along my tripod legs. Disney photographers have that disc that lights up, but I've seen people use velcro and some glow sticks.

You could try some of the "emergency" flashlights that they sell now that have battery powered glow stick on them. That way they are reusable, and they have four modes (flashlight, flashlight with glow, glow, and flashing glow). They come in many different colors.

Interesting. Thanks, I'll have to look.
