Does any1 have any spine deformeties are problems? This thread is so we can talk about it and hoe we cope with it every day. I have mild scoliosis and minimal PARS defect. My sister had a spinal fusion two years ago because of scoiliosis, and did great!

P.S. Does any1 here hace PARS defect?

I have a disintegrating disc right where the bra strap is and scoliosis. My shoulders and hips lean right and my ribs lean left. I drank tons of milk and had adequate nutrition and good posture. Over time the malabsorbtion from celiac, bad eating habits, and structural failure, lol, I am slow developing scoliosis. With a long line bra or brace it is not noticeable but usually I start leaning then the lower back gets tired so I look like a pretzel. Mine is not obvious normally as it is sideways and with loose clothing does not show very much.

The damaged disc is what keeps me off rides like indy jones, dinosaur and mad mouse roller coasters. The only down side to the scoliosis is that on a bad day i have a harder time reaching the top shelves of grocery stores and it is so subtle that I forget to stand up straight. There is not big screaming pain sign to tell me to stand up straight.

Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you too. I have an appointment with the orthopedist sometime in May. My degrees of scoliosis is 15 degrees, the radiologist read it. Maybe it's more. I have PARS defect(very minimal-so no need to worry) on L5 upon S1 to bilateral....something. I really don't understand. I really don't get lots of pain from my scoliosis but it's only mild. Are you having a nice day?

My mom made that appointment with my orthopedist on the 13 of May. Wow! That's exactly one moth away from my Disneyland vaction!:yay: Today I plan on just staying home, doing some school work.:scared:

I have scoliosis in the moderate-to-severe range. When I walk unassisted for short distances around the house (for long distances and trips to the store I take either one of my wheelchairs) I tend to lean to the right side to the degree of my scoliosis curvature. I can't stand for more than five minutes because my back can't tolerate long periods of standing. Sitting is OK with seating support.

In my power chair I have a Jay Focus point wheelchair back with HUGE lateral supports that the service technician moved inwards so that they can fully support my back. I love it. It's truly the best wheelchair back that I've had out of my two previous ones (deep contoured one and a custom-made one). My manual wheelchair has an tension-adjustable sling back. But, because it doesn't give very much support. I have to use my wheelchair tray to help with back support.

I do use a Kaye reverse walker which helps greatly for the times when I can't use either one of my wheelchairs. It keeps me in an upright posture and helps keep my back straight.

My doctor is waiting to see if my scoliosis progresses to the point of where I'd need the spinal fusion surgery. But, so far nothing has changed with my back in the last few years according to the recent x-rays that were taken, compared to the ones taken when I was 10 years old.

I'm glad that your curve has't progessed in the last few years. I'm 13 years old ad I'm guessing my curves WILL progess. Please keep me updated about you and will keep you updated about me. My appointment is in 4 days, so until then!

I'm having lower back pain recently, but I'm sure it's nothing to worry about!

Well, it turns out that my appointment will be the 14 of May. 'Till then.

No back pain today.

i have had lower back pain around my waist area from sleeping and staying in bed too long, lol. The agony of having a dead computer is me staying in bed, lol. Enjoyed the sleep and got some things caught up. I spend too much time online, lol.

yeah for no back pain, congratulations, kiddo. hugs:cool1:

I am an 37 year old ICU nurse who was injured by a patient 1 year ago and I have been pain ever since. After the incedent, I couldn't stand up fully, I was stuck and about 75% or so. It truly was the worst pain I have ever had in my life, worse than giving birth to my 2 kids. Since then, I also have not been able to walk normal at all. I used to drag my left leg, but now I pick it up better, but I still have weakness in the hip muscles. Another problem with walking is that my left leg keeps shortening, the chiropractor will get it into place, and the next days it will pull out of alignment again.

I have been to several doctors and had numerous procedures. They finally now think that my pain is coming from some facet syndrome. This causes my muscles to spasm to splint the spine itself because my body thinks that I have a fracture.

So, I week from today, I am going to go and have nerve branches that come off of L3, 4 and 5 permanetly burned. They feel once I recover from that procedure (2-4 weeks) that my pain will be gone and that the spasms will stop because because the nerves are triggering them.

I am very nervous about it, but I want my life back. Our finances and almost drained and I am sick and tired of laying around doing nothing.

I'm so sorry for you!:guilty: :sad2: :sad1: I hope everything goes ok!

I will update you guys tomorrow about my appointment.

Well, instead of my curve being 15, it is 12!

The doctor wants me back in 6 months and then again in 6 months. If it worsens up to a certain degree, he WILL put me in a back brace.

congratulations on the better number. hopefully you will keep it in a low number. My bed broke so my rump hurts instead of my back for once, lol. I finally find the perfect way to set at the computer but unfortunatelly my rump hurts lol. I need to remember to rotate my setting position more often.

hugs

Having frequent back pains, :worried: especially if I'm walking distances holdings stuff. I just hope I don't that MUCH back pain at Disneyland! I leave in 8 days!:cool1:

How is everyone here?

My daughter Emma is 5 and she too has a pars defect at L5-S1. She has mild spondylolisthesis right now. She too goes in every 6 months for rechecks. It is likely she will end up with a brace at some point given her age and the amount of growing she has left to do. It tends to slip as she grows... Poor baby - at 3 she was having back pain. Nothing someone so young should have to deal with. We are going to Disney soon and depending on how the pain is I may need to rent a stroller.

My DH has sever lordoris ,basically his back is so bent he is looking at the ceiling. He now uses an electric wheel chair. He has FSH muscular dystrophy and his is mutated( new in the family) so he's really bad. My DD has mild lordoris and we are hoping to provent it getting worse by using tharatogs( right no it's way too hot to use them). She has been genetically tested and carried the FSH gene but we will not know how bad it can get(her deletion was quite large). My two son's I have with my DH have not been testes but show small signs but we are waiting until testing is really needed. There are no cure and no medication to help. We attend a hospital that has top dr's who deal solely with this type of muscular dystrophy so we'll be first in line if something new pops up.

My son with Down syndrome (now age 18) had severe scoliosis that was progressing rapidly. He went from a 25 degree curve at age 14 to a 72 degree curve at age 16. Within 5 months of the 72 degree diagnosis, he was at 90 degrees! This was the day before his surgery at Shriner's Hospital in Erie, Pa. Anyway, they corrected him down to 30 degrees again. His surgery was on a Tuesday and he came home on Friday. He only complains of pain maybe once a month at most now. He looks like the bionic man... scar down his chest from open heart and scar down his back from spinal fusion. We call him the million dollar man! Good luck everybody. :cool2:
