I am an 37 year old ICU nurse who was injured by a patient 1 year ago and I have been pain ever since. After the incedent, I couldn't stand up fully, I was stuck and about 75% or so. It truly was the worst pain I have ever had in my life, worse than giving birth to my 2 kids. Since then, I also have not been able to walk normal at all. I used to drag my left leg, but now I pick it up better, but I still have weakness in the hip muscles. Another problem with walking is that my left leg keeps shortening, the chiropractor will get it into place, and the next days it will pull out of alignment again.
I have been to several doctors and had numerous procedures. They finally now think that my pain is coming from some facet syndrome. This causes my muscles to spasm to splint the spine itself because my body thinks that I have a fracture.
So, I week from today, I am going to go and have nerve branches that come off of L3, 4 and 5 permanetly burned. They feel once I recover from that procedure (2-4 weeks) that my pain will be gone and that the spasms will stop because because the nerves are triggering them.
I am very nervous about it, but I want my life back. Our finances and almost drained and I am sick and tired of laying around doing nothing.
