Spin Off - What Books Have Made You Cry

I'm a book-bawler too. Used to drive DH crazy but now he just laughs at me and gives me some kleenex.

Here's my short list:

Flowers for AlgernonThrough a Glass Darkly
Tigana
Time Traveller's Wife
Memoirs of a Geisha

Interestingly enough, I never cried reading Angela's Ashes. So much of the book is tragic and appalling, and yet so much of it made me howl with laughter too!

I also cry over almost every single Judith McNaught romance novel I've read. Now isn't that silly?

:sad1:

I very RARELY cry when reading books. Sometimes I get the urge, but hold it back. With these two books I was not able to hold back the tears:

Where the Red Fern Grows -- Wilson Rawls
Fine Things -- Danielle Steele

Every year I would read "Where the Red Fern Grows" to my 4th grade students. I team taught with another teacher, and we'd take turns each day doing the read aloud. When we'd get close to the sad part in the book, neither of us would want to do the reading that day because we'd start bawling in front of the kids. It's hard reading with expression out loud to a captive audience of 10 year olds and start crying. Pretty soon, most of the students would be crying too.

Bridges Of Madison County. I cried like a baby. :sad1: Loved the movie too.

I read for a living, so I've become a lot more desensitized than I used to be. That being said-- nothing will make me bawl like The Red Pony or A Day No Pigs Would Die. These were among my favorite childhood books but will make me sob til this day!

The Book Thief but totally worth. One of the best books I've ever read.

Like others said, some Nicholas Sparks but mostly The Guardian and Dear John, the book was much more sad than the movie. And The Notebook of course

I also cried in Little House on the Prairie (I think...), whichever the one was where their bulldog was following them across the river and they thought they had lost him, I cried so hard!

I cried in HP 5 when Sirius died and again in 6 when Dumbledore died

I cried in HP 5 when Sirius died and again in 6 when Dumbledore died

OMG, I had tears streaming down my face during book 6. I dreaded seeing it in the theater, because I thought I'd bawl my eyes out. I didn't, though. Maybe I was prepared!:rotfl2:

Dragonfly in Amber, which is the sequel to Outlander, which I don't recall crying in, but Dragonfly, oh boy.........I think I scared the kids!! LOL!

I'm reading that now, I don't want to scare anyone

I agree about Sparks, I can't read any of his books without crying, or watch his movies either (except Nights in Rodanthe, I thought it was horrible).
Other books are The Time Travelers Wife which I have read many times and cried each time.
Suzanne's Diary For Nicholas, which I could never bring myself to read again :sad1:

Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
My Sisters Keeper

Not sure of the authors but:
Same Kind of Different as Me
Deep End of the Ocean

Just about every book mentioned- I am a big crier. Also:

Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Night by Elie Weisel
The Little Princess
Bless The Beasts and the Children
Joy Luck Club
The Lovely Bones
Lord of the Flies
The Grapes of Wrath
Charlotte's Web

**Adding a few kids books-
The Giving Tree
The Velveteen Rabbit
Love You Forever

I tried to read Velveteen Rabbit to DD when she was little- I coud not get through it without crying so hard, my head hurt. Same with The Giving Tree. DD wanted to hear Love You Forever every night when she was little- I got so I could get through almost the whole book before breaking into tears. The man singing to his mother when she was too old and tired to sing to him anymore got me every time!

The two that immediately come to mind are A Prayer For Owen Meany and Paying It Forward.

Nicholas Sparks...The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, and The Choice. The others I got through ok.

Harry Potter Book 7. WOW so emotional over that one.

A Child Called It (I think The Lost Boy also)
The Shack
We Were the Mulvaneys
Harry Potter 7

Probably more, but those were the ones that came to mind immediately.
