Spin-off Thread: How many port stops have you missed while cruising......

What are your missed ports?
We've had really good luck. 29 cruises (various cruise lines) and only one of them had missed ports.

Both ports were on our Voyage of the Vikings, on Holland America:
Paamiut, Greenland - port blocked by ice.
St. Johns, Newfoundland - diverted to Corner Brook, Newfoundland ( which we had visited earlier in the cruise, other side of island) due to Hurricane Ernesto.

11 cruises on DCL and the only port we have missed was Boston during the 2019 DVC member cruise. We left Bermuda but had to stay far south of the northeast as there was a huge storm the captain had to try and avoid. The seas were still quite rough but we made it back to NYC on time.

31 Disney Cruises...

Castaway Cay became Nassau (Feb 2015)
Cozumel became a sea day (Aug 2017)
St Maarten became San Juan ((Aug 2014)

Twice we had to switch our sea day and CC day but we made it both those times, just a day late. (Aug 2011 and Dec 2010)

Out of 18 cruises on NCL we missed two of our Iceland stops because of the weather. I could fully appreciate that the missed ports were truly weather-related. When we left Reykjavik the seas were the worst I've ever experienced. My daughter even hurt her knee when she fell during a wave.

The only other time was Jamica on DCL. It became a sea day.

We’ve missed castaway once (on our first DCL cruise) due to a hurricane, so we knew on embarkation day and the ship rerouted around the storm. We missed Bermuda on Princess years ago because winds made it unsafe to dock which was very disappointing.

14 cruises in-had the port change of Kusadasi, Turkey to Mykonos, Greece about two weeks before we left on the 9 night med last summer. Otherwise, all good!

We have cruised 12 times and have only ever missed 1 port and that was Catalina Island (a tender port) in January of 2023 due to weather. On our last cruise, last week, in Grand Cayman we had to tender in Bodden Bay rather than George Town due to weather and ability for tenders to handle all of the ships into George Town. Our private excursion was cancelled because the all aboard time was shortened.

We have cruised 15 times (9 times in the Bahamas/Caribbean and 6 times in Europe) and never missed a port unexpected during a cruise.

We had a cruise booked in summer 2011 that was scheduled to go to Tunis, Tunisia. In February, before our final payment/activity booking date, the port was changed to Palermo in Sicily, Italy due to unrest in Tunisia. We ended up cancelling that cruise for an unrelated reason; we had been disappointed to miss visiting Africa, but liked the shore excursions available in Palermo.

We had a Bahamas cruise booked in October 2016 that was cancelled due to Hurricane Matthew, which caused closures at Port Canaveral.

We took a Northern European cruise in September 2023. We booked at the end of March; a few weeks earlier (well before final payment/activity booking), the itinerary had been changed with Amsterdam, Netherlands replaced with Zeebrugge, Belgium (near Bruges), and Sadnes, Norway replaced with Mekjarvek, Norway (near Stavenger). Zeebrugge was fine. In Mekjarvek, there was the most trouble with port excursions I have seen on a Disney cruise. Several were cancelled that morning, and several others started very late. We heard that the previous cruise that stopped in Mekjarvek (2 weeks before ours, also rescheduled from Sadnes) had similar issues with local excursion staff not showing up.

All 9 of our stops at Castaway Cay, mostly in January and February, have occurred as scheduled, though a few times early excursions were cancelled due to rain or cold.

6 cruises and now 2 missed ports:
-we are on Fantasy right now and missed CC as described in the blog post abive

-2023 we missed Cannes on our Europe Cruise. It was supposed to be the the first stop but about 5 hours after leaving Barcelona, we had to return to drop off a passenger for a medical situation. With the lost time, there wasn’t time to make it to Cannes the next day so it turned into a Sea Day.

Out of 12 cruises with Disney, only once.

Eden, New South Wales - October 2024. The previous cruise was all sea days and they used it as an opportunity to anchor the ship off the coast for hull cleaning (a requirement for biosecurity reasons before the ship headed to New Zealand a few weeks later). They didn't quite finish it before that cruise ended, so the start of ours was disrupted. They cancelled Eden, anchored us off the coast again, and then high-tailed the ship down to Melbourne to get there in time. We got $250 OBC per room and 20% off a future cruise which was really quite generous of DCL.

In 21 DCL cruises, no missed ports.

I’ve done 7 non DCL cruises and I missed Helsinki on the Baltic cruise on NCL. The wind was too bad for us to leave St Petersburg. I didn’t mind as I was planning to stay on the ship but it would have been nice to enjoy the ship without 4000 people on it 😂

35 cruises.....missed Grand Cayman twice, weather made tendering not doable.
One port in the British Isles for same reason.
Missed Key West when the dock had been hit by another ship.

11 cruises. 1 missed port at Grand Cayman. Went to Cozumel again. It was a double double dip cruise as we went to Cozumel and Castaway twice. One of a kind sailing

Just reading through the thread about missing Castaway Cay and I thought about the other ports we have missed along the way. I will say every port we have missed was the port we booked the cruise for in the first place, such is life.....

1. KEY WEST - We were scheduled there and Key West decided they were going to start allowing less ships into port. They did replace it with a second day at CC.
2. CATALINA ISLAND - Bad weather unable to tender in. We were given an extra sea day.
3. AMSTERDAM- last year people protesting the arrival of ships, Disney gave us an overnight at Hamburg, Germany in place of Amsterdam.
4. PUERTO RICO - Last month. Damage to pier we were suppose to dock at. We didn't receive the email until the morning of sailing. I think they were already aware of this, I don't know why they waited to announce it. We were given a day at Look-out Cay. It was a beautiful beach day and we enjoyed Look-Out Cay in spite of it.

What are your missed ports?
Email for the Feb 1 Treasure sailing that missed San Juan came out the afternoon before the sailing. My guess is they waited to announce it because reports had indicated the pier would be fixed that week, barring inspection. Clearly the pier wasn't fixed in time, but I'm guessing DCL was holding out to see what would happen. Had they announced the switch and then it was discovered the pier had been fixed, a lot of people would have been upset.

8 cruises, two missed port stops. One on the Wish, we got stuck overnight in Nassau due to engine issues (IIRC) and then didn't make it to Castaway Cay the next day. One on the Treasure, missed San Juan (went to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point instead) due to the pier damage/repair.

17 cruises and 2 missed ports. CC in Dec 2009 due to high winds if I recall correctly. It was my first cruise, so was a bit disappointed. Progreso in Jan 2024, because we had to hurry back to New Orleans due to bad weather coming up. Technically we did dock for an hour or so, but all excursions got cancelled.
