Spin - off - Tattoos?

I've never done a spin off thread, so ya'll be easy on me. Which of my disers have tattoos and how many of you love them still or have good stories to go with them? How many hours, etc? Visible?

I've got 3 - a small black swan for when I died and overcoming that, like the Taleb idea of black swans. About 3 inches on my left shoulder blade, and just looks like calligraphy. Not easily coverable, but would never show in my work clothes.

4 perfectly circular bands around one of my fingers to represent 4 personal tragedies (could I BE more historonic?) - its really unique, but requires being touched up regularly. I have a collection of beautiful art deco rings, mostly from my beloved grandmother, that cover it in a matter of seconds for professional reasons.

A series of tiny dots that run parallel to my clavicle to remind me of people that have shaped my life. I love that I have room for tons more and no more room for any more bands. Never seen in professional clothes, and super easy to cover with makeup should I need to for formal occasions.

Anyone? I love hearing this stuff! Hope everyone is having as happy a Sunday as I am!

I have one that i got when I was 19. It was my big act of rebellion LOL

Its on my left outer thigh and it's a small smiley sun. It has no meaning, I picked it off the wall at the tattoo place. I don't regret it but it's pretty generic. It's pretty colourful and has held up well. It took 30 minutes or so and cost $30

I have another one that I want to get on my right inner wrist. I am a Capricorn and was born in 1976. I like the way they are both incorporated and I love the colours.

I have 5:
~My first was a shooting star on my hip...just to get one.
~Then I got my astrological sign in the middle of my spine about 1/2 way down. (I had to be able to hid it from my stepmother to avoid an earful LOL)
~I have a little sentence about my twins with their names and birthday in really pretty/delicate script on my shoulder "Twins: two unique souls united by birth".
~A water lilly on my foot for no other reason other than I like it.
~ The last one I got was finished about a month ago. Its the cover art from the #1 standalone issue of Superman in honor of my father who was an avid collector. It's big, it covers basically the top 3/4 of the side of my thigh. It took two, four hour sessions to do. I would post a pic, but it starts on my lower hip/behind, so not DIS friendly. Here is the art though:

On my back left shoulder area I have a small Chinese symbol (supposedly) meaning "Long Life." I got it about 1992. It's green with a black outline. I really don't remember how long it took or how much it cost. Maybe an hour and $50.

Four years ago, a tattoo shop in Venice Beach, CA was having a "Mother's Day Special." Choice of 3 small simple tattoos for $50. I got a red rose on my right back shoulder.

Both are visible when I wear a bathing suit or tank top with narrow straps. Neither have any real meaning to me; I just liked them.

This may be the first spin off thread I've actually participated in. I clicked because I was curious- I didn't think you worked the kind of job in which you could rock sleeves. Clever cover up strategies.

I have no tattoos- I've been seriously considering getting one but the ones I really love are serious money and time investments- not sure how much time I really want to spend under the needle. Waxing and teeth work, and eye stuff already take a lot.

Also learned that tattoos may bar me from using Japanese onsens so I think that will delay my acquisition of body art a few more years at least.

That so pretty! Do it!

None, and I never will.

Well, never say never.....but I don't have plans to ever get one at this time! I'm a big huge baby when it comes to pain on my body, so inflicting it on myself on purpose will probably never be in the cards.

I don't have a problem with tattoos otherwise. Some are really cool, and I love the idea of the ones people do that are small, hidden, and have deep meaning only to them. If I was to ever get one, that would be why.

ugh. Wanted to edit, somehow hit reply.

Was just going to add that my contacts and glasses are set "luxury" (ha!) necessities that I will be paying for for the rest of my life. Adding tattoos that I may want to alter down the road just makes me second guess.

Your twin tattoo just melted my heart!

I love tattoos for remembrances. That's what my rings are really.

I have people that KNOW me and forget I have tattoos, sometimes when I'm not covering my finger tattoo up. Apparently, I don't look cool enough for tattoos and the one on my hand is often just "seen" as rings. Its the easiest tattoo to cover that I've ever seen. It takes no time to put a ring on.

Didn't know that about the Japanese onsens, now I've got to google.

I may be a really basic b, and get something in white on my wrist. I'd like to have something to do with gratitude on my body, just not sure.

I have 3 so far, all that I still love:

- the word 'believe' in cursive on my left wrist. got it at 18 right after high school graduation and it has helped me through some rough times
- a small Mickey Mouse head on the inside of my right ankle
- a rose on my right wrist that is purple, orange, and pink. I got it in memory of my Omi -grandma- who I was very close to as a child and passed away before middle school. She always loved flowers (this is the only one I originally had a problem with. I got a lotus flower first and passed out in the middle of it. the tattoo itself ended up looking horrible and I was so upset with it. finally got it covered with the rose and I am in LOVE with how it turned out)

Right now I have one. It is an ample bracelet with my DS & DGDs initials dangling.

I was thinking of getting "Roger Goodell kiss here" on my backside but go a wait til next Lombardi trophy :rotfl2::rotfl2:

My DH wants a Bruins puck with property of DH there so it is in negotiation.:dancer:

Apparently it's largely the public baths and due to the fact that they're associated with gang activity. Apparently has not been the same tattoo renaissance there...makes sense given Japanese collective culture and their odd emphasis on modesty.

I do not have any currently, but I've been wanting one for the longest time! I don't know how to pick a good tattoo artist though, & I'm worried that it will hurt too much.

Anyway, I really want 3 baby sea turtles on the inside of my right ankle w/ my kids' initials on the turtles' backs.

I'm a worrier & nothing makes me more anxious than our children. I also love anything beach-related. The ocean is just in my soul. One day, we were at our pediatrician's office for a follow-up appt after our youngest had fallen & hurt his head. I was being my normal, worried self, & the pediatrician started talking to me about baby sea turtles & how they have to crack out of their shells on their own in order to learn to be tough because if they're not tough enough, they'll never make it to the sea on their own - and, as parents, we have to step back & let them. I looked at my DH & said, "There's my tattoo!" We also have a children's book called Follow the Moon about a baby sea turtle which we all love. So there you go! My first tattoo will be 3 baby sea turtles.

I also want the words "Fear not..." on the inside of my left wrist - it's from my favorite Bible verse (Isaiah 41:10).

I used to want a tattooed wedding ring, but, since I'd always cover it up w/ my real wedding ring set, I'm not sure what the point would be.

I do want something though to represent DH & myself, so I'm thinking maybe a palm tree w/ our initials on the trunk of the tree & maybe have the baby sea turtles swimming away from the palm tree...

Precious for the kids!

I have no idea what most of the rest of those words mean, but negotiating with your DH over a tattoo seems like it could be some mighty fine leverage:)

Baby turtles and palm trees for your DH? Love it. Ya'll are giving me the feels today.

A complete ring is not recommended unless you're really dedicated to getting it touched up. Most artists will only do on the top or underneath (fewer). I have that tattoo as I mentioned above and I don't mind the maintenance, but it does wear off along the sides.
