Spin-Off from Prom Dress Thread: Do You Still Have Your...

My wedding dress is preserved in a box in my closet, but with those awesome shoulder pads and huge train it takes up a lot of space. After 24 years, I feel like I should just chuck it. Nobody wants it.

I don't have any of those except for my wedding dress. I tried to fit into it to wear for dress up day at Spirit Week this week, but it would only zip up halfway. :(. I had forgotten how heavy it was, though!

I did not keep my graduation gown, but MIL kept DH's, so I wear his gown to commencement at my school (we attended the same college).
I've never know of anyone keeping those. They typically belong to the school and have to be "rented" with the cost being part of grad fees.

Never went to prom and never been a bridesmaid. I still have my wedding gown. I'd like to take it apart to make something for my girls when they get married. Not sure what, though. Maybe a ring bearer pillow?

I wish, we have to purchase them here (they are the cheapy kind). Right now I have 5 in my closet (middle school has them for graduation, too). I was hoping to re-use for middle school this year, but they're going with another color. I have 5 more to buy!

Somehow my prom dress from '83, ended up in the back of the closet of my older sister's condo that she owned for 35 years. When she was selling, she came across it and sent it to me. It's your typical prom/bridesmaid dress from that period with giant puffy, off the shoulder sleeves, in the strangest pale lilac. I think it's a size 7 or 9 maybe, but it just looks tiny to me now, lol. My first wedding dress was a satin monstrosity that I hacked apart and made padded, satin covered coat hangers with. My second dress, was beautiful and modern and I donated it to a friend's daughter who was getting married quickly and couldn't find a dress she could afford.

I've got my senior prom dress - ivory lace. I can't believe how tiny I was 35 years ago. It won't fit my daughter although she thinks it is pretty. I cracked up laughing when I saw it's short version last spring in Torrid. I couldn't believe it was back in style. I almost bought it since it would have fit me. LOL

It was almost my wedding dress too but a friend loaned me her wedding dress that she was selling.
The wedding dress was gorgeous but it's long gone now - she sold it about a week after I'd worn it and had it dry cleaned.

Shortly after moving into our house in 2002, I got rid of my Grad dress ( 1987) along with 3 bridesmaid dresses ( late 80s to mid 90s).

My wedding dress is in a nice box at the top of our closet never looked at.

No idea of what happened to my graduation dress.
Also, my prom gown disappeared. It's either at my mom's house still or she got rid of it.
My wedding gown is preserved in a box along with my veil. Not sure if the slip is in there too. I don't expect to ever do anything with it. It's in my basement.
I never saved any of the bridesmaids gowns that I had although I don't remember ditching them either.
I do still have my high school uniform.

As I said in the other thread, my junior prom dress was remade into my senior prom dress (1994) and the pieces are in the girls' dress up hamper and were used recently for part of a costume.

I was a bridesmaid for my sister in a black stretchy drop waist dress with a magenta skirt. My mom added a teal bubble sleeve and an emerald green one (it was 1990!). That dress is in the dress-up collection at my mom's house.

My wedding dress (1996) is in a tote in a storage room. We got it out a couple years ago and it looks great. The style is timeless enough to be used now. DD18 is probably about the right size and somewhat likely to consider it when the time comes. DD15 would probably not and she will be too small/short for it anyway. My mom made it and I think it would be great if DD did use it.

My prom dress has a great story behind it. My mother tried to iron it the day of my prom, but ended up burning a hole in it with an iron that was too hot. She called the school secretary who was the mother of my date and they arranged for me to get out of school to go downtown to buy another dress.

My wedding dress also has many memories - even though I called off the wedding. When my roommate had a date with someone I approved of I'd hang it in her room. Several other parodies with it until I finally donated it.

None of my many bridesmaid's dresses were worth saving. The only one I ever liked was the one that we borrowed from the bride's ex college roommate. I had to give that one back.

When I finally married my wonderful now husband and I wore fishing shirts, shorts, etc. Nothing to save there. Although we probably do still own the stuff. That LL Bean stuff never wears out.

I guess this is where we tell the stories...my sister was supposed to be matron of honor at a wedding. Her dress was a hideous mid 1980s pouffy monstrosity in (I believe) purple. Every time she went in to get it fitted, they had to let it out in the belly. After a pregnancy test confirmed the obvious, the bride just told her to wear whatever she wanted. She got a beautiful black dress and looked amazing in it. I wore it for prom. I looked amazing in it.

I think my prom dress might still be in the closest of my old bedroom at my parents' house. It was red and strapless--exactly what I wanted.

I don't have any formal dresses I have ever worn including my wedding gown. I never planned on wearing any of them again so I didn't see much of a reason to keep them.

I have both my wedding dresses preserved and stored in boxes and 3 of my prom gowns.

My prom dress was borrowed, so I don't have it. I have been a bridesmaid several times, but the only dress I kept was one that was a normal dress, not a formal type dress (fall wedding on a farm). I do have my wedding dress, and I try it on every year on or around our anniversary. No idea why, but it still fits just fine and our 20th is in March.

:thumbsup2 I'm jealous! 22 for us this fall and I'm at least 2 sizes bigger than I was then.

No prom dresses or bridesmaids dresses. My wedding gown is in a zipped cleaner's bag but after 30 years and three sons, I think it's safe to throw out now, lol.

I do however have all three of my sons' going home from the hospital newborn outfits. I just can't part with them and it brings back a tearful flood of memories looking at tiny they were.

My junior and senior prom dresses, a bridesmaid dress, and my first wedding gown were taken to the Salvation Army some years ago. The only one I now regret letting gown was my senior prom dress.

My second wedding gown is still hanging in my closet. It's purple and technically a "mother-of-the-bride/groom" dress. Hopefully it will still fit when my son gets married!

My parents still have my prom dress and wedding dress in their basement. Maybe I will use the wedding dress for baby items for future grandchildren. DD23 recently said yes to her own dress and I doubt DD#2 will want it.

DD16 tried on my prom dress last summer and we couldn't zip it. She is 15 lbs lighter than I was in HS and really slim. It was a happy/sad moment to realize I was around her size back then. I should have enjoyed that time more when I could wear anything!

I still love my prom dress. It was a pale pink fitted floor length dress with pink satin spaghetti straps and tiers going down the back. She's the only one who might have worn it so it really should be donated.

My prom was over 40 years ago, so I have no idea where the dress ended up. I really liked it. It was a yellow quiana knit sundress. I gave my wedding dress away to goodwill several years ago when I decided I didn't really want to store it anymore. I have no idea where the bridesmaids dresses ended up.
