Awesome movie with incredible special effects. However, definitely WOULD NOT recommend this for younger kids. There is a tremendous amount of violence and disturbing images. We heard many children crying and saw several parents leave the theatre with the kids. Do yourself a favor -- get a babysitter and get ready to hold on tight to your seats -- LOTS of loud sound effects and "SUDDEN" action.

I think it was better than the first. But it is pretty complex and not as comic book-ish. There are also LOTS of funny parts and some goofy parts that are almost embarassing to enjoy.

It was alot better than the first movie. There was a lot more storyline in this one, as there was so much "set up" in the first. DH and I did not want to leave our seats and wanted to watch it again right then. I have to say there has never been a movie that I wanted to go and sit through again, right away!

I must beg to differ on your statement that it is not as comic book-ish. It totally follows something like over a 100 different books! My husband is a Spiderman fanatic and kept whispering to me how great of a job they were doing following the comic book stories. I can also point out several scenes that were straight off comic book covers. I won't give any spoilers here, but the similarities to the comic books are all over the place!

I'm glad you mentioned about not taking young kids. I think I'll still take my DS, but not my DD.

My local newspaper gave this 4 stars out of 4 stars.

piglet too--
When I said "not so comic bookish" I meant that it is very intense and unavoidable. I never read THE comic books, so I don't know how it compares to them -- I just meant that in judging whether it is for little kids, don't think that just because it is based on comic books that it is tame and simple. I also think the physics aspect made small segments of it boring for a pause for the younger members of the audience.

We just got back from seeing this. My DD (12) really enjoyed it and thought it was better than the first. DS (9) didn't seem to enthralled with it. The "love" story portion is a big part of this and he was bored through all of that, but he did like the action sequences. My DS also gets scared pretty easily but made it through. There is one particular scene at the hospital that *is* pretty bad/disturbing and that was about it. I agree that the younger kiddies might really get freaked out on this. Other than that, it is typical action hero violence (if there is such a thing). I only saw parts of the first movie so I don't know how it compares.

Sorry that I did not understand what you had meant. I do agree that it is not a movie for kids to watch in the theaters. I don't think there are too many "comic book" movies, recently anyways, that are meant for younger kids. Again, sorry for misunderstanding what you had meant.

Just saw it this morning...it was GREAT!!! I love Spiderman...always have

I went to see it with my friends and me and Katie were sooo psyched because we love Tobey. But the other two, welll.... one fell asleep and then she was mad when Doc Ock came on because he was loud and then the other one complained the whole ride home, "That was the dumbest movie I have ever seen, a total waste of my 2 1/2 hours..." I wanted to smack her.

I loved how Doctor Otto Octavious wasn't really mean, it was his arms. And did anyone else think that they were setting Harry up to be the next villian?

I loved the train sequence too, Tobey Maguire, my hero. :lovestruc

They were definitely setting up for Spiderman 3 with Harry. Although, I figure he either drank the stuff or realized what his father was all about. It could go either way.

As for the train sequence, I was just waiting for Superman to fly in. I think they really needed him!

I thought the same thing!! I really liked that scene though.

This was a good movie, but it felt awfully long and talky to me :( I fidgeted alot, and actually went to the bathroom in the middle of the film, which I never ever do...(usually, I prolong the agony and run out of the theatre at the end of the film). I guess I just don't get the frenzy around Spiderman. But I do think Tobey Maguire is ridiculously perfect for the part.

Saw it last night and loved it. The train sequence was my favorite.

I like how everyone (well, the important ones) knows he's Spiderman now...I HATE it when the main characters are all clueless about something the audience knows. Always bugs the heck outta me!

Um, let's see: he's always late, always exhausted, always seems to disappear when bad stuff happens and 3 seconds later there's Spidey...Spidey disappears and all of a sudden Peter has time for everything! huh...

We saw this yesterday and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It had some depth and a nice, believable storyline. The effects were quite good too.

It was interesting to read what others said about small children seeing this. We had several small kids around us which worried me but they did quite well. I guess that we got lucky! :)

In the comic books, Harry Osbourne took over as the Green Goblin after his father died. This has pretty much been agreed that he will be a big villain in Spider-Man #3. Also, if you paid REALLY close attention, in the wedding scene he was wearing a dark green bow tie...a clue of things to come (Green Goblin was that dark metallic green).

Ya took the words right out of my mouth, Stepharoonie. I was just about to comment on the Harry/Green Goblin thing. My brother's a huge Spider-Man fan and inadvertently turned me into one.

I can't wait to see the movie. Of course, I have to see it with my brother since we're both web-heads but I'd like to wait until it won't be so crowded.

Dh and I saw it last night and thought it was excellent. I thought it was exceedingly better than the first one. . . and I liked the first one! The director did a fabulous job of incorporating Peter's inner struggle of duty vs. desire with the intense, heart-pounding action sequences. It seemed nothing was superficial in this film. . .every scene had a certain underlying nuance to it. I too was thrilled that MJ witnessed the truth of Spiderman firsthand, and there was just that tangible, cautious release that was evident on Peter's face right before they shared that first "real" kiss---no more secrets between them.

ALL the actors were truly perfectly suited to their roles. I remember thinking (before the first Spiderman was released) that Tobey Maguire was such a strange choice for an action hero--just an average-looking guy. I am so happy that his abilities on screen proved me wrong!

:wave2:

:)

We finally saw Spiderman 2 on Saturday.

Definitely 4 thumbs up from us!!!

Yes, there are some loud scary parts. Some parents had to take their children out early, because it got too intense. I would say that it is not appropriate for children under 5.

DH and DS are big time Spiderman comics fans, and yes, as Stephanie stated, it is known in the book that Harry DOES indeed take over as Green Goblin, as was foreshadowed in the movie. Actually, the movie also alludes to the growing psychosis that drove first Harry's father, and now Harry into their evil alter-ego, the Green Goblin. But best of all, this means that there will definitely be another Spiderman movie!!!!:bounce: :bounce:

I only saw the first one on a tiny screen on an airplane, but we have the DVD, so we will have to dust that one off again and compare the two. Spiderman 2 has uniformly gotten great reviews, primarily for better character development and really expanding the characters' personalities and emotional turmoils. And they seem like real people . . . I mean, did Clark Kent ever have to worry about not being able to pay his rent???

The cast is excellent. I wondered about Tobey Maguire initially as Spiderman too, but he has really grown into the role. I think it is because he just seems like a regular guy that makes his Peter Parker so believeable. Mary Jane was a bit more whiney, and we actually liked the landlord's daughter (who offered Peter some chocolate cake -- and milk) better!

Overall, a fun summer movie. One of the best comic book movies ever made, and makes us eager for Spiderman 3!!!!:hyper:

For those of you discussing the possibilitiy of a third movie, SpiderMan 3 is tenatively to be released in early May of 2007.
