Busch Gardens Williamsburg VA just opened the new attraction Curse of DarKastle. The ride is made by the makers of Spiderman at IOA. I had such high hopes for it but alas, my hopes were dashed. While the technology was like spiderman, they left out a lot of the extra elements that make Spiderman so good. The visuals were blurry (maybe it was my 3D glasses) and the only thing I really remember standing out was that during most of the scenes they threw things at you (knives, plates, swords). I am one that will go on a ride again and again especially when there is no wait. The day I went was pouring down rain and I got there at opening so there was no wait but I did not go on it again. I suppose if I hadn't been jaded by spiderman, I would like the ride more. It was such a let down. :sad2:

That's been the first review of the ride I've seen online. It's too bad BG doesn't spend the $$$ to add another coaster type ride. How long was the wait?

Well I went Friday 5/6. It was pouring down rain and temps in the 50's. There wasn't a crowd, therefore, no wait.
But at the parking booth they were handing out flyers that said the wait for this ride "may exceed what is customary for our park as many of our guests wish to experience this new ride." And it also said that it may experience temporary suspensions of operation for short periods of time because it was a new attraction.

Maybe some of the effects weren't working all the time, like when spiderman first opened. I hope so. And perhaps those who haven't seen spiderman will appreciate it more than I did.

I have seen it and think it will be a hit attraction. Even though I am against the copy. I mean even the cars have the same motions and there is even a drop like in spiderman. I think that people who dont know about spiderman will like this attraction more than us spidey freaks :charac4:

There are some reports over on the TN forums.

While I haven't rode it, I have watched the video, and see major differances which will keep Spiderman at the top.

DK has less moving effects, instead they rely on the screens.
DK has orchestra music playing, while Spiderman has a rock and roll song.
DK's story is unknown, just visiting a castle and trying to escape.
Spiderman is a known story, with good and bad characters and Spiderman who always wins in the end.

If you ask me, from watching the video, DK seems like a Disney ride. Yes, the fans will ride it, will have 3 hour waits in the first year, just like Rhino Rally did at BGT, but after that, bla.

BGW needs to build a coaster to replace Drachen Fire which was removed a few years ago. My vote is for Drachen Flyers Revenge.

Where is the video rob. Is it an on ride video. If it is can you send me a link to it or post it. Thanks :teeth:

Well, I bet most people who visit BGW haven't ridden Spiderman before and in that case, this ride will probably be just as popular to them. It's old to us, but not to a LOT of other people.

I don't see how orchestral music isn't as good as rock n roll, it fits the theming. :confused3

Yeah, but when you are flying around city streets and there is rock and roll in your ear classical music doesn't cut it. I saw the video from TPI and the ride seems ok. I unerstand now why it isn't as good as spiderman. It seems to rely more on 3-D imaging and not so much motion. Spiderman still has my vote. :teeth:
