We are going to be in Orlando for a couple of days prior to our 7-day Eastern Caribean cruise on the Disney Magic ( :goodvibes ). For the first day, we plan on doing Magic Kingdom and the second day we had planned on doing Animal Kingdom. The problem is that our DS (4years old) is a superhero fanatic and is convinced he is going to see some superheroes on our trip. As a result, we were thinking that it would be great, if possible, to drive to the Spiderman breakfast at Universal's Islands of Adenture with our two older kids (DD6 and DS4), do the character breakfast and then drive back to our hotel (ASMov), grab our DD1 and DM and hit the bus to AK for the rest of the day. I think that Universal is about 15 miles from our hotel so we would be looking at 45 minutes to an hour of driving in total. Are we biting off more than we can chew with this plan? I am not too worried about the fact that the plan will be hectic as we will be spending the following 7 days lounging on the boat -- what I am wondering is whether it will even work at all. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Very possible. The good thing about Ak is that you can get through everything in less than a day.

All I can say is that I've read many posts saying you can do AK in 1/2 day. My wife was there with the kids and said the same thing. I think it depends on how much the kids like animals and how whether you want to hang around AK or just go through it. Either way if you have an early breakfast, say 8 or 9 and you are back at AK at 10 or even 11 you should have plenty of time.

I say go for it, you can't let a kid miss Spiderman!!!

We are going in May for DS's 5th Bday. He too is a superhero fanatic. I did not know that Universal had character meals. Where can I get this info? :confused3 It would be a must do for us!

Just agreeing with the crowd.......... LOL

I think you'd have NO problem at all doing this........ it's very easy to get to US/IOA from Disney............. and then, like others have posted AK is not an "all day park" unless you make it one!!!

Besides, he's just got to see Spidey...............!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Just wanted to say that you may want to hold off on doing any Disney character meals until after the Universal one or else your kids may be very disappointed in the universal one.

We did a Universal dinner last year and the character interaction was nothing like we experienced at Disney. Dd was "bored" and ready to leave to go see Mickey after the first character came around (I think it was Woody Woodpecker). Hopefully they have gotten better, but when we were there they had absolutely nothing on Disney!

Thanks for all of your quick input. My son will be ecstatic if he even catches a glimpse of Spidey, let alone get the chance to talk to him. Magicx2, you can find more information about this breakfast if you search "Spiderman character breakfast" in the DIS boards. Universal has a website but I found the information on this breakfast hard to find and not as useful as the discussion on the boards. I think Spidey shares the main stage with Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Dr. Suess but I understand that other superheroes have from time to time shown up as well.

My DS4 did the Spiderman breakfast at Universal last summer. He loved it! It was his favorite part of the entire trip. Spiderman was there, the Cat in the Hat and Things 1 & 2. The character interaction was great. Spidey even hopped up on our table. My son went wild when that happened!!! For anyone interested, there's info about character breakfasts on Universal's website.

My DS did this Nov 2004 when he was 5 and he absolutely loved it. We had Spiderman, Cat in the Hat, Popeye and one of the Marvel heroes. Very similar to a Disney character breakfast...just different characters! Daughter's reaction was so-so, but for our son, who's been to many princess and Disney character meals, he was ecstatic over meeting one of his heroes.

As for doing both, I think you can do it in one day. Keep in mind that I-4 can get very jammed during rush hour. There is a very easy back way to Universal and you might want to explore that option if you are driving yourselves.

Have fun!

Our family did the Spiderman character breakfast in October. I thought it was great. The food is not as elaborate as Disney and the selection is not as great, but the characters (Spiderman, Cat and the Hat, Thing 1 & 2) were great. They spent 10 minutes at our table. Our food got cold they were there so long. We didn't mind that at all.

I don't think you will have any problem going to both parks.
